  • 21m66 for Zane Weir at Italian Clubs Championships in Caorle today. It is his new PB.
He had a really solid second part of the season.

    • Trayvon Bromell. Has any other athlete missed his peak so badly in a championship year before?

9.77 WL before Olympics. Out in SF in Olys. 9.76a WL after Olys.

It would be one thing if he got food poisoning or injured. But, according to him, he has no idea why he performed so badly in Tokyo.

          • Why isn't there a big discussion on the new 9.77 man?

                • Nozomi Tanaka did a single day triple of 1500 (4:08.81) 3000 (8:50.47) and 5000 (15:55.99) in a span of six hours. Apparently, she is doing this kind of stuff to prepare herself for a situation where she has to race more than once in a championship.

It doesn't seem unreasonable for someone whose PBs are 3:59, 8:40 & 15:00. If she'd run 15:25 for the 5k instead of 15:55 I would have been surprised.

I don't know if this was the intention but I don't see that as a particularly difficult set of marks to hit for a pretty decent runner over that time span.

                            • I agree that 15:55 is probably not a good simulation for a championship race. A better simulation might be running a 1500m time trial (possibly with a male pacer) several hours before a high level 5000m race with runners like Hironaka and Hagitani.

                                Not bad for mid-October.

                                - from Carles B.

Also - in one of the the 17 gazillion 5000 and 10000 races in Japan every week, Antipas Kibet (Ken) ran 13:08.58.
