  • European U23 Champs, Tallinn, day 1
Adrianna Sułek has a big lead in the heptathlon with 3838 (13.43-1.84-13.16-23.69), 43 points ahead of her PB score from Gotzis. With a good day 2, she could get close to 6400. At the NC the LJ let her down, hopefully she can do something similar to her 6.29 from Gotzis this time.
Klaudia Adamek set a PB of 11.30 (+0.4) in the heats of the 100, then made the final with 11.35 (+0.3).

Messed up the LJ again and ended up just down on her PB (by 10 points). If she can sort that event out, 6400 is a possibility.

                  • This seems like an appropriate place to post this very sad news -- Ed Marcinkiewicz, who was a frequent visitor to the board to keep up with Polish athletes, died from pancreatic cancer last night in Houston. Coach Ed, who was a longtime assistant at Texas A&M until 2005, was one of the finest people I knew and he will be greatly missed. He had a very wide range of interests and most recently worked for M-F Athletics. The only thing I can't forgive him for is his support of Arsenal, but we all have our crosses to bear.

RIP, Ed. You were one of a kind.

                              • Not track related, but bad news for Poland's swim squad.

Olympic swimmers sent home from Tokyo over country’s ‘embarrassing’ blunder

Six swimmers who thought they’d made Poland’s Olympics squad have returned home from Tokyo after sporting officials owned up to a heartbreaking blunder.

The Polish swimming federation (PZP) put 23 athletes on a flight to Japan - when they were only supposed to select and send 17.
