  • Des Linden's 50K WR Attempt

    It's on!
First report was from 6.5 miles (turnaround for the Half), and she was at 38:08!
Picture of her shows she's relaxed!
At the turnaround, she was cheering on other athletes!!

Chris Chavez says she's wearing the Hyperion Elite 3 shoes--not due for general release until January 1st of 2022!!

Someone else said that cell reception is bad on the course, and that they had to drive almost all the way back to the start to send a tweet (from the 6.5 mile point!)

A photo of the "elite drinks" table shows it's out in the sticks!
    Exact location unknown!!

Someone just tweeted she's at 5:47 pace, which works out to just under 3:00:00!!
      She's smashing it!!

        Confirmed!
        She passed the 13.1 mile point in 1:15:47---splits of 38:08 & 37:39!!
        Definitely on sub-3 hour pace!
        WR is 3:07 and change!

Being pedantic here, but it isn't a world record event. It's a world best.

            Whatever, she's on it!!
            Charlie Lawrence is pacing her!
Photo (at 13.1 miles??) showed Lawrence about 2 steps ahead of Des, with the next runners about 5-10 yards behind her!
One of the other runners is Adrianna Nelson!
No idea if anyone else is planning to finish!

The photo of her from another angle shows she's running by a lake out in the wilderness!
(Photo taken from her right side, shows lake to the left of her!)
Anyone know of any lakes near Portland??

I sure hope there's timers at the Marathon mark! I assume that would count for lists, yes?
                50K is for . . . um . . . esoterics.

Not sure, but my guess is they're doing the Half loop twice, then adding the extra 4.9 miles somehow!!
So if that's the case, there will be a Marathon time taken!
Double her Half time, and she should pass the 26.2 point in 2:31:34!

Unknown source says she passed the "half marathon and a half" (19.6 miles??) in 1:53:35!
If everything's accurate, that means her 6.5+ splits have been 38:08, 37:39, and 37:48!
No official reports since the Half, however!!

A couple of very brief (10 secs) videos show her running very smoothly on the right side of the path (not a road!), with her pacer to her left!

                        2:31:12 at the full marathon!
So her halves were 1:15:47 & 1:15:25----with about 4.9 miles left to go!!
She might hit 2:57 or 2:58!!!

Less than 1000 meters to go???
                          The tension builds!!!!

                            She must be finished!
                            Awaiting the verdict!
As Tom Petty sang, "the waiting is the hardest part"!!

Breaks the record by well over 7 minutes!!
