  • if the season ended today....

    (May 21, that is)

.... if choosing a men's AOY I'd have a tough time sorting out Crouser, Duplantis & Vetter

From those three have to go Vetter, Crouser, Duplantis.

Terrance Laird has won all eight races with superior times in the 200.

it was the 305, even if not his seasonal best, which confirmed him as part of the current big 3

Laird's having a great season, but in all-time terms, 25 men have run faster than him: for both Mondo and Vetter, just 1 (plus himself) are better and only 5 (plus himself) are better than Crouser.

How can you compare the past in the javelin?

Anyways at 305 time for another adjustment soon...

this from a guy who is perfectly willing to sacrifice earlier distance runners on the altar of new shoes!!!!

Old javelin throws were farther 40-50 years ago.... but they all got tossed out like they never existed...in fact they did it again a few years later..I don't see anything like that in the distances....when that happens I will give you the point.

Shoes have evolved. It's a new era.

I forget if indoor T&F is considered in AOY decision making, and am too lazy right now to look it up.

If so, Vetter's at a decent sized disadvantage.

Yes, Vetter is having the best outdoor season at the moment.

I thought for certain events, such as shot and PV, T&FN considers indoor as well since its (essentially) the same event.

Yes, It's Vetter, Then Crouser and Duplantis. What's the old style Javs have to do with this?

To be fair to Vetter no-one 40 or 50 years ago had thrown the old spear further than his career best throw.

Alternatively, as the current javelin has been in use for 35 years you can just compare the various events' all-time lists for the last 35 years only.
