I'll throw in Robert Brandt somewhere. He did run 27:39 in December so he get in the top 8 if he runs close to that.

Probably Charles hicks as well. He is a good closer.

Mantz has great strength, but if the pace isn't hard enough, someone will outkick him.

They need someone who can comment on distance races.

            Called it.

Didn't expect Kiptoo to falter like that.

how can Dwight with a straight face talk about so many guys breaking the MR? Get back to me when they switch to 15-pound shots.

The MR SHOULD have been broken MANY times over the past 40-plus years.
There have been many qualified people to do it, but most Championship races turn strategic--and there goes any chance for a recorrd.
They FINALLY ran it the way it should have been in years past!
So no, keep that straight face, Dwight!

Actually, they showed a lot of early part when Kiptoo was just leading lap after lap. When the race started moving, and there are major lead changes, it's time to insert commercial breaks and interviews. ESPN definitely knows how to cover distance races. Just ask Emma Bates and Molly Seidel.

Indeed the fast times don't surprise me with the fancy shoes...still fun to watch.

Obvious at 5k in under 14 and a big pack that the meet record would go.

Just watched the replay on YouTube...not bad though going on and on about the Arkansas coach got old....

Anyways Stones was fine on the finish....10 guys did break the meet record....is every race supposed to be a rehash of the shoes which really few care about now?

I was at that 1979 race in Champaign. Great race....That was then...

Nope, as long as everyone doesn't try to compare the times to a few years ago.
If you're just into who wins, the game remains the same.

If you care to compare stats, or rank by stats, or do anything else having to do with the performances, then yeah, you must acknowledge the difference.

I agree with that... obviously the shoes make a difference.... also the English dude who won had a PR by 40 seconds.

Comparing different eras is always problematic. The New shoes era is here. I'm just enjoying the fast times.
