Haven't watched the race yet but the photofinish (check it out on IAAF results site) makes it look like Edwards had thrown in the towel before the finish. She isn't leaning, sorry, she's either upright or leaning backwards. Whatever!?

"At the final change the teams were even and it was up to the raucous Paris crowd to get the statuesque Arron home. Arron took 50m to get an advantage on Torri EDWARDS (USA), the 100m silver medallist last Sunday. Arron pulled away to erase any disappointment from her sixth placing in the 100m."

It was very close at the final changeover. Torri was leading the last leg, but as the IAAF article says, Arron took her in the final30m of the race. Torri put up a good fight, though, but she looked simply too tired from her previous 8 races in the week.

I was sitting at about the 60m-to-go mark on the homestretch, dozen rows up. Miller-to-Edwards pass was relatively smooth, but Edwards (from my vantage point) appeared to have to slow down significantly, so she had no momemtum. Arron, on the other hand, took the stick in full flight and she blew by Edwards like she was standing still. Much of it was adrenaline, I'm sure, as was Barber's 6.99 a few minutes earlier. I've rarely heard a stadium go so bonkers.

Train ride back into town was a hoot, with a car packed Tokyo-style full of sweaty bodies belting out La Marseillaise (sp?). I felt like I was in a "Casablanca" rerun. I expected Major Strasser to walk through the train at any minute, shutting it down.
