Kessler has that last gear - should make final.

Boy amongst men does well. If it is a slow final, Kessler is going to be a factor.

Oooo, I knew I liked Hocker. 'Wanna run with me, boys?" Made everyone run fast to Q.

3 rounds to eliminate 6 runners out of 30 in the heats.

if it's a slow final, Hocker could be in Tokyo trouble (as in, he might not be there)

I don't think Hocker will let it go slow. If they split 48 at the 300 mark I think he will go to the front, he doesn't lack for confidence.

with a 3:34 to his name he will be a factor if it's slow or fast.

5 or 6 eliminated. I am not sure any of these guys minded if they could run two rounds instead of three.

Exactly. Some people think that it is important to have three heats to simulate the Olympics. Do you think the top athletes from other countries have difficulty navigating the rounds? Hell no.

I've felt for years that they have way too many entrants/heat/rounds....could easily have limited fields to 24, had 3 heats and a final in a number of events

there's a financial aspect to having more rounds; if you're going to sell 8 days worth of tickets, you better have 8 days worth of "entertainment"

He is currently ranked #42. So can't he get in, even if he does not hit the standard?

I remember attending a world Champs where there were 3 rounds in the men's 1500 and, if everyone had equalled their season's best, it would have only needed about 3:42 to make the semis.
