But will they all be in the mix in the last 150? If Nakaayi can kick in a faster race (and I mean way faster than her PR of 1:58.04), the way she did in Doha twice, she'll still be a medal threat.

It's happened in plenty of international races. In a domestic race, I doubt it's happened since the days of the USSR.

Mu was amazeballs. The only way she is going to get beaten in Tokyo is if some of the other women try and crowd her and don't allow her to get into that position she likes, sitting on the shoulder of the leader. They are going to have to take the race by the scruff and not be intimidated by her ability and talent.

ETH have employed team tactics in the longer events, will they do the same here? They've been prepared to sacrifice runners to pace for the favourites. This is the only way I can now see her being beaten.

Yes, and I'm very proud that I picked her as a dark horse for top 3 before the Trials (so close!) - https://forum.athleticsweekly.com/fo...june#post30146 Of all the first round starters she was ranked 12th by PB but there was something in the NCAA final that alerted me to her being a cut above your average W 800 NCAA champ. There she made a little move with about 170m remaining to get on the leaders' shoulders. It looked so effortless.

And she's got a pretty wicked kick in the last 60m. With 80m to go last night she was 8th about 0.8s off 4th place! Another 15m or so and she probably would have caught Ajee Wilson.
