I am in a boat similar to yours. But I loved the 400H. While I did not have the speed, strength or natural talent of most of my peers, I had pretty good form over the hurdles. And I had a solid base of prayer to get me over the final two barriers.

From the info on WA Moses' first victory starting his streak was Sep.2nd 1977. We should be not counting from his last loss prior to this. Running the clock forward we have June 4th 1987 for his first loss since (not counting pulling out from the final on June 8th 1984 nor competing in 1982 & 85). Including Sep.2nd and excluding June 4th you have 9y 9m 2d. Also,WA lists 114 races between this time including 14 Heats and Semifinals. Thus his streak is 100 final victories or 114 races. How did we arrive at 122? Are there some missing races? The above book references 122 including heats and semis.
purists include a break for Moses in the year in which he ran the semis at the AAU but skipped the final

Understood, but how do we get 122 when WA only has 114 (including 14 heats and semis)?

I guess Karsten optimized his own race, no need for help from me! Whereas it looks like RB pretty much ran just shy of old WR pace through 6 hurdles before starting to outpace it, KW went out even faster, getting to near a quarter-second advantage on his WR and then putting himself an extra tenth ahead per hurdle between a few hurdles (H6-7, H7-8, H9-10 two tenths here) in the second half of the race.

Yep KW started fast and finished strong: .30 ahead at H6, Rai makes move and still.07 behind at H10, then Thor's kid goes 5.08 (5.24 RB) for the last 40. Talk about optimization! I guess KW brought his father's hammer this day.
