This is interesting. Has she ever even run a 400m race?

She and Burnett may have been added in those slots to have them available for 4x1 duty if needed.

That's certainly the USA way! This year's Trials worked out better than any other in my memory. Brazier was hurt. Other faves just didn't look sharp.
Sometimes, however, our teams have not been the best we could have fielded.

I invite your attention to the bolded, underlined, italic, red part . . .

            men

Samson Colebrooke - 100m; Steven Gardiner - 200 and 400m; Jamal Wilson - high jump and Donald Thomas - high jump, waiting on an invite.

            women

            Tynia Gaither - 100 and 200m; Shaunae Miller-Uibo - 200 and 400m; Brianne Bethel - 200m; Anthonique Strachan - 200m; Pedrya Seymour - 100m hurdles and Devynne Charlton - 100m hurdles.

The women’s 4 x 400m relay team is the only one to make it. Their squad will include Miller-Uibo, Strachan, Bethel, Doneisha Anderson, Megan Moss and Lacathera Cooper.
I think that just means they are entered, not that they will necessarily run both. The schedules are not conducive to doubling:
            200/400 double
            Shaunae
            8/2/2021 10:30 8/1/2021 18:30 W 200 h
            8/2/2021 19:25 8/2/2021 03:25 W 200 sf
            8/3/2021 09:45 8/2/2021 17:45 W 400 h
            8/3/2021 21:50 8/3/2021 05:50 W 200 F

            8/6/2021 21:35 8/6/2021 05:35 W 400 F
            Michael Norman
            8/1/2021 10:45 7/31/2021 18:45 M 400 h
            8/2/2021 20:05 8/2/2021 04:05 M 400 sf
            8/3/2021 11:05 8/2/2021 19:05 M 200 h

            8/4/2021 21:55 8/4/2021 05:55 M 200 F
            8/5/2021 21:00 8/5/2021 05:00 M 400 F
Those are from a spreadsheet I put together: 1st tab, chrono; 2nd tab by event; 3rd tab just finals; 4th tab possible doubles
            Cheers,

So no one here is questioning Muir's... "wisdom" of trying to run a 8/15 double?

Smart decision after everthing that unfolded in just the past 2 days. 200m ofcourse a challege, 400m she is far an away the clear favorite with no athlete running in Tokyo having a PB faster than her current SB.

She's in the 10K, so not really.

Has the US team been announced yet? Inika McPherson posted a rant on Instagram about not being selected to the team although a jumper who didn't make the trials final was selected.

I wonder where she got her information from, because I can't find anything else online to confirm that she wasn't selected, and her non-selection wouldn't make sense based on USATF's rules. McPherson doesn't have the standard but she's #27 in the world rankings and placed 2nd at the trials and the field size for the Olympic HJ is 32.

The schedule doesn't hurt the women's 400 that much. Having the 200 final and 400 heats on the same day hurts the 200, but the 200 is already out of the way when the 400 semis and final are run. She should double. The double is much tougher on the men's side.

I would be surprised if Muir actually ends up running the 800.

If you look here McPherson has indeed fallen off the bottom of the invite list at number 33. Her rant might be about the fact, that in this very unusual situation where she is indeed the next person in line that USATF/USOC could have just skipped McCoy and added her.

But USATF will reject the invite for Butts-Townsend and put McPherson on the team, right?
