  • Womens 4 X 100 relay

First of all, I want to congratulatethe US women for their silver medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay. But they should have won! Why did Chryste Gaines not anchor?! Not taking away from Torri Edwards who is an extremely gifted 100 and 200 runner with a better than average start but running from a flying start she's no match for C. Arrone from France. Gaines in my opinion could match if not outdo Arrone from a flying start.
Besides if Kelli White would have ran, it would not have been close. I hope the IAAF doesn't drag her case on for more than a month, that should not even be a factor.
One more comment/ I was appalled at the French women for they did after the race. WHen Dwight Stones was in the midst of interviewing the US womens relay team, the French women decided to take a stroll behind the US women in full view of the camera and give give a wave out and I have a feeling they weren't waving just to say how ya' doin'.
I can't wait for the Olympic final. (White, Gaines, Edwards, Jones ) equals GOLD! WR! (40.?) or at least 41.1. Zippy-Dee-Doo-Dah and Away We Go!

Yeah, the US has ALWAYS been a modicum of decorum. Please.

So that makes it OK huh?!
I guess since the US men's 1996 4x100 Olympic team made themselves look like imbecils after crossing the finish line at Atlanta all men and women who represent the US in any track and field event are game to have their nosed rubbed in the bung everytime they lose?

They couldn't have done it in 1996, the US lost to Canada!

But, don't complain about a simple wave. US men in 2000 OG made a bigger mess, Remember James carter (400H) in Sydney???

What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

mjd you are wrong ! justifying bad behavior by pointing out another case of bad behavior does not fly. sure drummond is a clown, but bernard behaved himself much better this time. and by the way it it not the first time the french have acted like this, in 91 they were talking and moking during the playing of the us anthem for the men's 4 x 1 relay thriumph.

              Re: Womens 4 X 100 relay

I think the coach made the right decision given the following:

Kellie Whites sudden withdrawal from the relay.

Option 1 - Move Torri to anchor and have her practice receiving the baton from Inger. The rest of the team remains intact.

Option 2 - Move Torri to second leg and Christie to anchor because I am scared of the French and have no confidence in Torri on anchor. Christie now has to practice receiving the baton from Inger. Torri has to practice receiving the baton from Angela and handing off to Inger.

In the time frame in which they had to work I can understand why the coaches opted for option 1.

2000 Olympic relay in Sidney, My mistake. The 96' team should have won it still. If they had ran Marsh on 2nd leg, Kevin Williams on third and King Carl on anchor. Bailey would have never walked him down.

They took the low risk, low reward strategy that pretty much ensured they would get something from the race. The other approach if it had worked would have seen them probably win the gold, or they might not have got the stick around

That was just my honest reaction to a rah rah post by JP(and there is nothing wrong with that.) He's celebrating a gold in Athens already so I figure the French women can be forgiven, at least by him, for getting a little carried away. I just thought it was funny.

I think he means JEFF Williams. He had Jheri curls in his head.

...Not to mention that I do believe Jeff once ran the 200 in 19.85. If I'm not mistaken, he ran 19.86 at the 1996 trials behind Michael Johnson's 19.66. I'll have to go back and check my magazines to verify.

must be difficult spending the entire day thinking up little potshots to take at the country to your south.

                              We got a little complex?

Boo hoo little boy, somebody took your medal 15 years ago and your going to cry about it until you get everyone back......WAAAAHHHHHHHH!
