  • 4 x 100 m MEN

A great finish to yet another event. The USA were probably fortunate that Greene got injured and that Montgomery left.

I don't think either of those guys have the top end to have spotted Dwain Chambers 1.5 meters and run him down. JJ Johnson is probably the only guy in the US squad who could have done the job.

I am really happy for these goys they did a great job.

I saw the race today on ABC. Wow!Did JJ did JJclose or what? Chambers is a stud of a sprinter, but I've noticed in the past that if you run close to him he tightens up late in relay races.Remember 99' worlds when he lead Greene by a step and Greene ate him up the last 40 meters.Anyway kudos to both teams for giving us alot of excitement. We should stick with these guys and add Gatlin and a hopefully better Montgomery(with Pfaff) next year.I don't know about Greene, he seems listless to me.Drummond needs to go ahead and retire. He will catch it from the fans next year. Capel has taken his leadoff leg.

Well done USA, now if our guys could only have taken the bloody baton round the track, perhaps they might have had an outside shot at the bronze. It has been a shitty championships for the Jamaicans so I'm not too surprised

Does anyone agree with me that our passes were godawful and they just plain outhustled the rest? Speed kills.

the coaches were smart to let the same people runs the three rounds. i think that the semis were the best round by far. patton run and passed poorly and to his credit admitted that in the interview. i am not at all surprised that jj run down chambers he has run down mo before and almsot did the same thing to monty in this year's penn relays. i am glad the coaches put him anchor where his horrendous start does not play a role at all. in the same token the women's coach should have put gaines as the anchor. she has run down people in the past too and definitely would not have let the french pass him in the last 10 meters.

Most Definitely!!! I don't know how much help these relay camps that they have instituted have been. The USATF has allocated a lot of money to the relays to improve passing etc, and it didn't seem to have paid off at all.

Are you joking? A team, that was far from being populated with our so called "A"list sprinters, ran a terrific race and capped it off by having the anchor run down the UK's "A" team and all you can do is critize the program that got them there? Does anything satisify you? The Brits should be the ones critized. For years they've had the prospects and they still come up short. What makes Chambers a superstar? Malcolm, Lewis-Francis, Campbell, as juniors they were touted as the next wave. How many World/Olympic titles do they have? Not many or is that none.

Greene's not really injured. He's gotten so good at faking injuries at the ends of races he loses that I think he even has himself convinced. The losing placebo has become very effective for him.

I think Greene is done as being a consistent sub10.00 sprinter. He just looks like he has no desire and his acceleration at the 50 meter mark never was a factor in big races.Drummond is done as well. I know he might not have false started, but he acted terrible and his first leg on yhe relay is now Capel's.Tim Montgomery is the only one that I could see get back to being sub9.90. Let's see how training with Dan Pfaff and having Marion around works for him.The team we put out there should be together along with Justin Gatlin,Coby Miller, and Shawn Crawford and/or Terrence Trammell. It is time to let the young guys shine.

< It has been a shitty championship for the Jamaicans >

What are you talking about?? Sure they had some bad luck. Asafa (DQ), Veronica Campbell,Juliet Campbell,Tanya Lawrence, Aleen Bailey all injured.
Bridget Foster getting a fast gun from the starter then subsequently getting injured.

I don't want to rub it in but here are some positives you can take from the meet.

Winner of the 400m Men - Jamaican born
Person running the last leg 4 x 400 men winners - Jamaican born
Person running the last leg 4 x 400 women winners - Jamaican born
Mother of Kellie White - Jamaican born

And then again winning isn't every thing. There were some great non winning performers.

Danny McFarlane promising debut in 400mH.
Allison Beckford Dean Griffiths and Elva Gouldbourne seem to be about a year away from being truly world class.

I pretty much expected all the positives. Shitty championships I reiterate. Brigitte pulling up, Aleen Bailey pulling up, no Tayna Lawrence, no Veronica Campbell, Elva's poor Long Jump, Germaine Mason not picking up the HJ bronze,no 4x1 finishes, no Bolt . The only unexpected positive was Beckford's silver.

Maybe I have overly high expectations, but I have been following this since I listened to DQ win the 200m in Montreal as an 8 year old boy. Jamaican born does not cut it with me, even though Sanya did at least start High school before she left. When you know your best women's 4x1 has WR potential. Elva has been jumping 6.80 for the past 2 years and has a 6.90. She had a bad day qualifying. You do have a point in your last sentence. They will be free of the burden of the NCAA which is a two edgrd sword. Stephen Francis coached sprint athletes have a way of getting hamstring injuries, which is what I was worried about with Foster running the relays. What happened to Juliet Campbell. If we have no major injury worries we can better this performance next year in Athens. I hope so because I plan to be there

Juliet pulled a hamstring running the 100m at the Rome Grand Prix meet. (Why is this girl running 100 metres? Her PR going 400m is 50.11 done twice.)

Jamaica could have used somebody with those sort of splits to support Lorraine and Allison.
