Willie Banks clears 5-7 for world age-group record at age 65
Returning to his first love — the high jump — straddler Willie Banks used a three-step approach to break the M65 world record outdoors.
See video of Willie Banks in the high jump Sunday — and not even realizing it at the time.
Then he said: "Let's just go. Let's get this thing over with. Let's just put it up to 1.70" — 5-7, which would top the 21-year-old national record of 1.66 — 5-5 1/4 — held by North County's Phil Fehlen.
Next week, he leave for Tokyo for World Athletics Council role and serving on the Jury of Appeals.
