Unfortunately, we could not duplicate the crowd noise in practice (or the glaring morning light and shadows on the track) and consequently our injured lead-off runner was not himself, our third leg left a second late, and our anchor thought we just had to finish the race to qualify. An official told him so.
As always we are so proud of the men's 4x1 relay program and we look for even greater success in the future.
What else are they gonna say? Public relations at its best. That line about the anchor? Shameless flipping gem of a turd. 🤣 Help. Please. Someone. The USA is in trouble.

Even if you're going to use a sub, why take the slower guy?
i suspect Gillespie has participated in USATF relay camps in the past and Williams obviously hasn't.

      • At least they didn't drop the baton. Mind you probably more embarrassing to lose this way.

At least when you drop the baton you can claim you would have won if you hadn't dropped the baton.

Losing this way just confirms that you were nowhere near good enough.

That was Baker’s fault. Baker didn’t take off until Kerley was right up on him.

Santa Monica track club! but in reality, even days of practice with the stick would'nt have made Bromell or Gillespie any faster and that is what cost them a chance at the final.

            • This was an inexcusable failure...an embarrassment.

yes, don't blame Kerley...he ran the only good leg...99% of the time it is the fault of the outgoing runner

Even with Bromell and Gillespie they would have qualified with even a slightly below average 2nd exhange instead of an awful one.

Well if their coaches are willing to make an official statement akin to :"An official told our anchor he could run backwards and we'd qualify", then it's neuronal cohesion that's blowing up.

                    • Can someone explained what has happened to Brommel between his last Diamond league race and here? He said he's not injured. I thought his exchanged with Kerley was decent, he just did not gain any traction on the chinese. Kerley held his own but my goodness what was Baker doing, he left a second late and the handoff was awful. As for the anchor, the less said the better. The race said all that needed to be said.
                      Apparently Ignorance is bliss

                      • The US should have dropped the baton on purpose!
Then they would at least have had their normal excuse for failing--instead of "They SUCK!!".
                        LOL

                          • Selfish of Bromell knowing he wasn't 100%...sometimes you have to sit down for the good of the team.

Williams ran at OU. He had more recent experience than any of them.

none of the guys had better show up for any other meet the rest of the year! except Kerley.
