Since 2012 (when IAAF granted the DL winner a wild card) USATF's rule has been if the reigning world champ is American, they take precedent with the wild card.
Let's amend that. Both go. Then we get Kovacs and Crouser auto-in. There's still two more places at the WC Trials.
I rather fancy this setup for field events. Not as big as a stadium but it's more intimate and the focus is all on the field events.
I also like the smaller final field. 12 is too much, I think in championships make the cutoff 8, I wouldn't even mind 6 like they did here. You get to know the athletes better and let's face it...pretty rare a 10th or 12th place qualifier does anything in the final.
