  • T&FN Cross Country Preview

I'll speak here only to the Women's Individual preview, but feel free to speak about the Men's, plus both Team previews as well!

One name was omitted from the list, both the Top Ten and the Honorable Mentions--Katelyn Tuohy!
I realize that the lists were based mainly (solely??) on the "2020" Champs, plus the 2021 INdoor & OUTdoor seasons on the track!
And Ms Tuohy didn't perform well enough there to be considered!

However, the preview should have looked beyond the past to the current situation.
As you know, Tuohy edged out Kelsey Chmiel to win her 1st Collegiate XC race!
(Chmiel IS mentioned in the preview!)
I think Tuohy may be on the way to a stellar group of seasons (XC, both Track(, and will probably run a 5000 PR next year!

Other than that, good picks, but still should've looked beyond the past!
Same problem with pre-season polls for Collegiate football!!

      I erred!
Just noticed Sieg Lindstrom's article is dated today---a few days AFTER Tuohy won that race!
So his passing Tuohy by wasn't influenced--one way or another--by Tuohy's win!

Having Hannah Steelman as NCSU's first runner at the NCAA meet is a bit of a surprise.

For the men, I think a glaring omission is Graham Blanks of Harvard. Runs 13:27 as a 19 YO after taking a gap year. I mean, he's not that far away from Nico Young based on PB.

The meet was essentially an intra-squad meet for NCSU. We don't know who was going all out, who wasn't, etc. Tuohy may very well end up in the top 10 or top 5 in the NCAA XC champs in a couple of months but I don't think this past weekend's meet should sway anyone in either direction.

Only Harvard's third man today at the Coast-To-Coast Battle in Beantown.

Noticed that North Carolina women ran an all frosh team, and won Beantown race.
