Yup - what an animal - Pre reincarnate. Every time someone tried to slow the torrid pace, he just gunned it more.

He may never replicate his XC prowess on the track, but he's defo in my short-list HOF.

Here is a guy who should move to road as soon as possible. He doesn't have the closing speed to be a medal threat at Olympic or WC 10k.

Today was not humid at all, and Tally is a different climate zone from Ft Myers, but even temps in the low 60's F under cloudless sky can have an effect given an effort of sufficient intensity and length. And today's race was very fast from the outset.

To be fair to the official, I of course didn't hear what he said and, for all I know, he may have told Teare not to finish unless he felt up to it. Dorando Pietri did actually cross my mind.

At the 1954 Vancouver Commonwealth Games he reached the stadium in first place, 17 minutes ahead of the next runner and 10 minutes ahead of the record, but collapsed repeatedly and failed to finish. After covering just 200 metres in 11 minutes, he was stretchered away and never raced again. "I was lucky not to have died that day", he later said.

Think Teare was a case of dehydration/leg cramp bonk rather than heat stroke of the brain fry variety and he'll be fine.

That looked far worse than leg cramp.. You wouldn't know that while he was racing. They should have just pulled him from the course...he did 6+ minutes for the final k.... heat stress can also be dangerous.... hopefully he recovers completely but that is not a certainty.

An Olympian friend in England saw it and was appalled....thinking it could have been her son who just missed qualifying last week. Good thing he didn't go.

In the meantime NAU easily wins it's 5th title in 6 years but let's focus on Teare. And in spite of losing Grijalva. They return everyone next year and will likely be getting Newbury Park studs in the near future...they already get Sahlman next year plus the Young brothers after that.

Also Grand Valley blows out the D2 field going 1-2 in the race and Zach Panning takes 11th at Chicago in 2:15...Go Lakers!

They'll clean up for sure. Great Oak and Loyola are both quality programs and NP went 1-6 on them. I will like to see when the Youngs and the Sahlmans are gone to see if they can maintain this incredible development. Also to see how NP alumni fair post high school. So far only Nico is any kind of barometer and he really took a little step backward this year. Any idea what kind of mileage they're running in HS?

I'm not sure calling a 19 year old running 24 seconds behind a 24 year old (couple weeks from turning 25) that has run 27:41 on the track a step backward. Every xc race is new and unique, this year was a barn burner, taking 20 seconds off a CR held by a pro. He finished down the chart a little, and probably turned in the best ever U.S. performance at 10k by someone his age.
