Why, yes, I can; and unlike you, I can even spell Khannouchi!

I guess when he ran the 3:53+ Webb actually WAS World Juniors medal material. He did get some pub in the mainstream media for breaking Ryun's record but nowhere near as much as Labron James did for getting a Humvee.

If there is a real medal threat, he will get publicity all right. Webb wasn't even World Juniors medal material, yet the media covered him like crazy. Blame Khalid Khannouchi for not wanting to compete in Paris...

I don't think even an Olympic medal threat in the distances would get the attention of the media. There would have to be some sort of scandal or feud, real or fabricated, involved.

Um . . . can you say Kannouchi? Or isn't he "American" enough? How about Jacobs? We've got plenty of interesting stories. ESPN people are simply totally ignorant of the sport, and you can blame leadership of all kinds for failing to do the self-promotion neccessary to get inside their heads.

Probably because he (Tony) doesn't know of any. With much of his focus on other sports such as...welll...football, basketball and baseball, I don't think he is too caught up on U.S. distance running (along with other ESPN personalities). They -- the mainstream media -- focus on what is handed to them, such as drug accusations or positives or the crazy antics such as Drummond in the 100 meters.

After all, the average fan does not care much about distance running in the U.S. because we don't have any "superstars." They want to hear why Drummond did this, the Kelly White issue, what's up with Maurice Greene, etc.

Unfortunately, until someone comes along and can be a serious Olympic medal threat, I don't think the media is going to pay much attention -- or care to ask -- about distance running in the U.S.

Tony asked him about Drummond, and a quick piece on Edwin's possible comeback.

Masback said that he though Moses would have trouble meeting the 50.5 B standard for the trials, and basically had no chance to make the team (which he said he thought would have to be 48 or better)

Did anyone else hear the interview?
