Yet another new thread to start the new year for those on cutting edge of the international date line.

The sadly redundant 2021 thread is here for those that can't let go of times past: https://forum.trackandfieldnews.com/...ults-news-2021

      Same to you Atticus.

Not a good start to 2022 for me.
      * WSU Cougs getting a hiding from Central Michigan
      * Managed to mess up my right knee which now looks more like a red cantaloupe with the result that I can't compete today in the Annual New Years Day Tauranga Twilight meet. Thus ruining my opportunity to lead the world in the m70 shot put for 2022, even if for only 1 day.

That Aussie 4x100m record is looking under threat if the girls can get some practice & competition: A Queensland squad might even break it.

              11.16 Basic
              11.25 Connolly
              11.31 Day
              11.33 Lewis
              11.36 Masters
              11.39 Lane

                200 (0.7) Masters 23.25
Bree Masters opens her season with an encouraging set of PBs for the former beach sprinter.

In her first runs since June 2021, the 11.36 +1.5 improves her 2021 PB of 11.47 +0.5 by a full tenth. Her 23.25 +0.7 is also a tenth better than her 2020 PB of 23.35 +1.7.

This moves her 100m from =29th to outright 19th on the AUS all time performers list just behind multi-Olympic 200 finalist Denise Boyd and just ahead of two other multi Olympic reps, Sharon Cripps and Debbie Wells. Also of note, Sharon Cripps ran in the gold winning CWG relay team with Aidan Murphy's mother, Tania van Heer.

Masters' 200m improves her from 36th to 28th, indicating she's a bit further behind in that event but to equal her 100m placing she only needs to match Wells with 22.98. Given the parlous state of W200, I'd like to see her eventually getting closer to Boyd at #3 (23.35) but dropping a full second this season is too much to expect but top 10 at 22.81 shouldn't be out of reach given her 100m.

We should remember that she has only been competing since 2019, so hopefully, she is no longer in the transition period from beach to track and is now fully adapted to track sprinting. It would be nice if that 11.36 was the slowest she ran all year.

                  100 (2.1) Murphy (b03) 10.41 Hunt 10.51
                  200 (1.4) Murphy 20.64 Hunt 21.26

Murphy continues to be unlucky with wind in the 100m with his official PB of 10.64 run into a -1.7 and his fastest 100 of 10.20 with a excessive +3.4, making it adjust to 10.36 in still conditions. The elusive SA U-20 and Open records of 10.51 and 10.40 survive another week.

Murphy equals his recent 200 PB of 20.64 from November 2021 but with less wind than the previous +2.0. Currently sitting at =29th on the AUS all time performers list and 3rd on the U-20. Dropping another tenth will push him to =18th but not budge his U-20 placing. He needs 20.46 to ease past Olympians Darren Clarke (20.49) and Fred Martin (20.48) and take top spot on the junior list.

The full midnight run competition was cancelled so Nick ran in a privately organised race instead. Documentary footage on his attempt is available at:

                        1.5 metres short.
Never mind he will still get it.

                          Why wouldn't 20.47 suffice?

Because then you wouldn't have contributed to the thread and the world would be a worse place.

                              Here's a video of the race: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CYjFXCI...dium=copy_link

Very good run, all through the phases, strong and nice turnover. It was mentioned here earlier about how Masters transition from beach to track might see her a better 200m runner eventually, which I think I agree with. Interesting to see when she races Basic and Connolly.
