How else is a guy who can't break 1:46 going to run sub 3:30. Tip of the iceberg indeed. Most of these guys who have had Europeans and others intimidated with claims of genetics etc. are dirty. Wonder how many potential champs hung it up or never gave it a try because of all these cheats benefitting from PC attitudes, avoidance of most spot testing, and an embarrassed IAAF, trying to make things look clean, having now backed itself into an embarrassing position?

Yikes, don't go there. P & I are KILLING each other. At worst druggies are just killing themselves, poetic justice. We can't give up on drugs any more than we can legalize marijuana, just because 'everyone' does it and it's a 'victimless' crime. Drugs (abused) cheapen life and it's too precious to waste. And so endeth the lesson.
P.S. do not turn this thread into a pro-weed thing.

you are talking to a total, complete 100% virgin ( at least with regards to drugs)here. But emotionally, this whole drug thing is just ruining everything. Childish I know, but I wish we could ignore the whole deal and just ooh and aah at the performances. Isn't that what we USED to do ??!!

Imagine what would happen if we repealed all drug rules (just in track!). Imagine the toll in human lives. Just for our fan enjoyment?

tafnut, I know that you are right, but I was purposely speaking with my emotions instead of my brain to illustrate the height of my frustration and unhappiness about "The Whole Drug Deal."

You mean only the people who actually face YEAR ROUND spot tests.

                          Re: Lagat-holy shit!

One thing..it`s not about fan enjoyment, it`s about an athlete trying to earn a living and trying to gain an edge.I would be just as happy to watch a good 100m race run in 10.16 as I would seeing it run in 9.80...I have had one of my former runners test positive ( leaving me as a college coach and going on to train with a club Coach) and believe me, it was not for fan enjoyment...it was about making a living on the tour and keeping up with the other sprinters..and don`t be so naive as to think that it`s not happening on a wide scale ..it is and that`s one of the reasons I`ve left the sport on that level. It`s a shame but it`s a choice made by an adult who wants to earn a living . Sorry to sound so callous ..but its what I`ve seen as a coach..I`ll say no more on the subject..accept it for what it is.

Well, of course the American distance runners are clean. Just Look at their performances.

Still, lets not concentrate on drug accusations of various athletes. US distance running has many problems that need our attention now!

I could care less if Lagat is taking drugs. What I care about is that there were only a hand-full of American distance runners in the finals this past world championships.

When is the US going to start producing solid 3:50 milers and 13:10 5000 meter runners again.

                              Lagat is not our concern.
