The CBD of Gaborone is 1014 but the National Stadium where the 9.96 happened seems to be at 991m, so no scarlet A besmirching the performance. It's the Botswanan La Chaux du Fonds!

    • Good racing at the adizero Road to Records races in Germany yesterday. The headline results were Kejelcha winning the 5km in 12:53, no3 A-T, just ahead of Nicholas Kimeli, 12:55, and in the 10km six men ran 27:00 or faster, led by former WR-holder in the Half, Kibiwott Kandie 26:50. In 2nd place Sebastian Sawe (KEN) backed up his recent surprise 58:02 Half with 26:54.

Two 17yo Ethiopian girls were really impressive. Aynadis Mebrit, 4th in the Half with 67:45 and Medina Eisa, 2nd in the 5km with 14:53. I hope both of them will be at the World U20 champs in Cali (racing Japan's Seira Fuwa hopefully!) and in the U20 race at next year's World XC Championships.

Speaking of cross country, this event yesterday was a pretty good advert for the World Cross Country Tour. At the biggest races on the XC Tour you do get some of the biggest names (especially in the Spanish races) such as Margaret Kipkemboi, Beatrice Chepkoech and Senbere Teferi, the latter winning the 5km here in 14:37. But, the World XC Tour is also a great proving ground for top youngsters, a few of whom did very well yesterday.
World XC Tour overall winner Rodrigue Kwizera (BDI) set a 26:56 NR beating Rhonex Kipruto in the 10km and in the 5km, two athletes who finished top 2 in the World Tour XC races in Italy also ran very well - 18yo Levy Kibet running 13:02 and 19yo Addisu Yihune (ETH), the Campaccio XC winner, was 6th in 13:12. The winner of the Women's 10km here in 30:24, 21yo Fentaye Belayneh, placed 4th and 5th at the Campaccio & Elgoibar XC races earlier this year and the aforementioned 17yo Medina Eisa was 5th at Campaccio. If you want to watch top talent on their way up, then watch the World Cross Country Tour races (nearly all of them are live streamed for free)!

Particularly bad day for Jenny Meadows... Koike pronounced Kioke, and that 400h announcement where every single name (except Benjamin) was murdered.

She had a nightmare at the Kip Keino Classic yesterday too. She pronounced Mboma's name in 4 different ways before she had even left the blocks.

If you squint real hard, you can see Traves punch his ticket to Eugene.

Details & links in the document linked at https://forum.athleticsweekly.com/fo...2287#post42287
