BYU Cougar Invitational
Niklas Arrhenius threw the discus 60.16m to win, making 2022 his 19th consecutive year with SB >60m.
This year also represents his eligibility change from SWE (end 25 Aug 2019) to USA (start 26 Aug 2022), although, practically, it doesn't start until next year.
With him turning 40 in September, time is running out even allowing for the longevity of discus throwers. However, it's not impossible as he has been at the pointy end of USA performer lists in recent years, so we will see:
2019 64.56 6th performer USA
2020 66.46 1st
2021 64.30 6th

Only 19yo (20 in Sep) and already at 67.68 (also 66 at two other meets).
He's obviously very gullible seein' as how he attends Cal Bezerkley, so he we offer him a lifetime pass to Taco Bell.

2. The ACC JT Records are wrong---his ACC MR (before today!) was from 2019, not 2021!
So he's 8th A-T Collegiate, and 17th A-T American!!

The photo I saw on Twitter (from UO T&F/XC) was of his victory lap, not the race itself!
Guess he took off his shoes to do the lap!
LOL

Brigham Young this weekend has been hosting a Friday-Saturday meet, the Cougar Invitational. Results in the men's 800...

show a winning 1:47.03 by BYU freshman Sebastian Fernandez, who is listed on the TFRRS roster webpage for BYU but is not listed on the team roster in the BYU men's track & field webpages.

Googling, I'm not finding any other info on where he attended high school or secondary school, or what kind of running stats he established, pre-college. Any clues? I'm wondering if he's a walk-in and/or somebody coming to track from another sport.

You are correct though. There's nothing out there on him nearly at all.

But the 2020 lists were shorter than normal, due to Covid!
Maybe he didn't run that year!

A bit of further sleuthing found his pre-college experience at Anoka HS (Anoka, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis). Class of 2020, his 2019 800m PR might be 2:06.04, but at the 2019 State Meet he ran a 4x800 leg of 1:57.78.
A fascinating improvement. Talk about coming from out of nowhere.
