This weekend California gets rolling in earnest in the leadup to the state meet in two weeks. Worthy of its own thread?
I'll be at the CIF-SS divisional meet tomorrow at Moorpark High. (They moved the meet out of LA County because of all the onerous covid restrictions the county still has in place. I think this is the first time since the meet began in '78 that it hasn't been in LA County, and the first time since '19 it's been held anywhere.) Four divisions, two sexes, 128 total events. Top 9 in each event (top 12 in the distance races) advance to next week's CIF-SS Masters meet, formerly the world's greatest track meet. (Sorry, Zurich.)
Assuming there is useful internet connectivity in the press area I'll try to keep up to date with top performances - we have a really good crop of sprinters this year, plus a generally good bunch all around.

At the CIF-SS meet today, Roderick Pleasant of Serra Gardena goes 10.16w (+2.5) and 20.40 (+2.0)
Hot temperatures and high winds kept many of the performances down, but the guys in the 100 loved it. In a display never seen in this meet, 10.57 fails to advance to the CIF-SS Masters next week. All the 100s were windy, but in the +3.0 range, so not gratuitously so.
Max Thomas of Servite has a legal 20.68 (+1.3) Jaelen Knox of Poly a windy 20.77 (+2.5)
Couldn't post live as the media setup was horrific, but Engelhardt strode through 4:43 / 2:08 (divisional record in the latter) while Dalia Frias jogs through a 4:48. Aaron Sahlman negative splits a 1:52.5.
Also interesting for those of us who like to feel old - one of the division 400s was won by William Mullins of Cathedral in 47.62. He's the *grandson* of California legend Billy Mullins, who won the state 220 in 1975 and went on to run some very good 400s at USC before getting in trouble for a few academic infidelities.
