  • Twins--The Weeks vs the Molls

As i've followed the rise (literally!!) of Hana and Amanda Moll in the Pole Vault, I couldn't help but remember the rise of the former Weeks twins, now Tori Hoggard and Lexi Jacobus!
But since the Moll's haven't gone to college yet, I limited my study to their HS years!
    Here's the stats--

    INdoors
    Tori cleared 14-4
    Lexi cleared 14-3.25
    Total of 28-7.25

    Amanda has cleared 14-9
    Hana has cleared 14-8
    Total of 29-5

    The Molls win!!
Is this a Record (limited to INdoor HS)

    OUTdoors
    Tori cleared 14-1
    Lexi cleared 14-7.50
    Total of 28-8.50

    Amanda has cleared 14-9.50
    Hana has cleared 14-4
    Total of 29-1.50

    The Molls win again!

For the record, let's look at what the Weeks twins did while at Arkansas---

    INdoors
    Lexi cleared 15-4.25
    Tori topped 15-1.50
    Total of 30-5.75

Assuming both Hana and Amanda compete in college (unless they turn pro!). will they top the Weeks twins?

    OUTdoors
Lexi cleared 15-3 (official Collegiate season, ending with NCAA's)
    Tori cleared 14-11.50
    Total of 30-2.50

    Same question for the Moll's!

    I can't think of any other twins---in ANY event--other than these (Moll's & Weeks).
They must be in the same event, obviously!
And they must be Twins--not just brother and sister, or siblings of the same sex, but born in different years!

Mastalirs immediately come to mind. At a slightly lower level, Frank & Chuck Assuma. And at a yet more slightly lower level, the Stonerocks from Saugus.

Pretty sure Alvin & Calvin weren't twins.

Alvin & Calvin Harrison? If they weren't twins, it's the second-greatest birth story in history!

              Alvin & Calvin!
Sounds like outcasts from the Calvin & Hobbes cartoon strip!
              LOL

Seriously, I'm familiar with the Assuma's and the Mastalir's---but are they twins?
If so, then choose just one event (5000? 10000?), and compare their times.
If Collegiate, remember to limit them to "in season"---NCAA champs or earlier!

              Are the Harrison's twins??
And haven't heard of the "Stonerocks" (a joke??), or Aaron & Ashton Collins!
Anyone have stats on any of these??

Are Callum and Gavin Sherry twins?
                Or Aaron and Colin Sahlman?
                Or Leo and Lex Young??

I'm sure you have all of Jack Shepard's annuals. The data is there for you to compare to your heart's content.

HS Track has less on their lists than I do, and both of the Asumma's and the Mastalirs aren't on them, just one!
But I did look up the Harrisons.
                    Their lifetime bests were---

                    200
                    Alvin ran 20.23
                    Calvin ran 20.57
                    Total of 40.80

                    400
                    Alvin ran 44.09
                    Calvin ran 44.64
                    Total of 1:28.73

Calvin served a 2 year ban for drugs, and missed the 2004 Olympics!

Willis, Gorriaran and Whitaker should make noise at the 800 if they go.

At the Oregon Relays, both Amanda & Hana made 4.02 (Hana on 2nd try), then both passed 4.17!
                            Waiting to see next height!
                            Everyone else is out!

ADD: Amanda didn't make 4.27, so she's out!
Hana made 4.27 on 1st try, now going for her OUTdoor PR---14-5.25!!

Hana made 4.40 on 3rd attempt!
Now going for HSR (OUTdoors!!) of 14-10!!!

                            Shit!
Those "Athletic Live" results pages are the worst!!
They've had Hana at 2 misses (at 14-10) for the past half hour, yet the event is still said to be "live"!!

Back to the question about twins:
I was going to say my sets of twins would take us back to ancient days, but gm beat me to it by getting us back more than a half century with Gene and Joe Pouncy. Going back farther, there were three sets of famous twins in the 1930s and '40s.

Bob and Ross Hume (Michigan '45) tied for first in the mile in the 1944 NCAA, Central Collegiates and Big 10, and in '45 tied for first at the Big 10, and tried to tie for first at the NCAA but the tie was disallowed and broken by the officials. PR for each of them was an indoor 4:08.3 in 1944.

Before the Humes were Blaine and Wayne Rideout of North Texas State ('40), with the mile as their best event. PRs were 4:08.7 '40 (3:51.5 '39) for Blaine and 4:10.3 ('40) for Wayne. North Texas State had a second set of twins, Elmer and Delmer Brown. Elmer (20.9ys '37) and Delmer (20.7ys '37, 47.6m '37). In 1938, the two sets of twins teamed up to set a world best for the 1 7/8-mile relay at the Millrose Games, with Delmer running the opening 440, Elmer running the 220, Wayne the 880 and Blaine the anchor mile. Time for the race was 7:27.5
