    Hmmm....

Personally, I wish him well. No-one else got crucified so publicly since some hairy bloke in AD 33. He was never the smartest guy in town, it all happened 18 years ago (what be of time...), and the guy needs food on his table. Good luck to the guy.

It's respectable now. Note that Bonds is now suing-not for the disclosures but for the fact that they were disclosed. Some IDIOTS will still be voting him to the HOF. Stunning just stunning.

It's called 'prostituting' oneself. People do it all the time, because, as we all know, it's about the $$$.

From the article, the company's CEO claims:

"The cheetah is one of the fastest land animals in the world, so that's how we made that connection."
This was one of the joke-du-jours in '88! They can't take credit for that.

Q: What do the fastest man on Earth and the fastest animal on Earth have in common?

Yeah but turning "cheeting" into something humorous or respectable just makes the situation worse for both fans and participants.

(It reminds me of teaching college students in Louisiana. Instead of getting angry at the political corruption surrounding them they were so used to it that they just laughed when it was reported. I would suggest there is evidence that this milieu has dire consequences.)

Too bad this wasn't posted here. Tafny material from another board:

"it wasnt easy reliving all those painful memories that i wasnt alive for."

Mojo and other Canucks - how did you hear the news in '88, and what was your reaction?

My dad lived in Cambridge, Ontario at that time, and his irrational hatred of all things Jamaican notwithstanding, I can't remember him being so shocked by anything . Ever. Naive moron (his words, not mine).

I feel very uncomfortable with my "it-was-a-long-time-ago" quote earlier. There is no possible excuse for what BJ did, and time doesn't change that - WWII survivors would agree, I guess, as unfortunately too many contemporary Germans don't. But he's served his time.

Edit - please excuse totally shitty irrelevant analogy. Offensive, unintentional. Sorry.

As I have mentioned before-at a Four Seasons in Montreal where my wife had brought me for a surprise birthday present. We watched the final before we went out and it was about the most exciting thing I had ever seen. Streets of Montreal went nuts. Ended badly, of course, and my addiction to newspapers got even worse after that because I just couldn't get enough of reading about the aftermath. We eat our young up there when they deserve it. USAnians, on the other hand, are stupid enough to actually vote them into the hall of fame.

Ouch..... but from what I know, true.

Whole thing still confuses me. The thrill of the race, and the fact that no man has run quicker (he eased up, Asafa!) is something I'll never forget. But he cheated. And lied. Never got my head around that dichotomy, don't think I ever will.

A friend who worked at TSN called and gave me an early heads-up before it was official. It was no surprise and was just another lesson in the politics of drug testing in sports. I thought that Linford Christie might take the fall too but his herbal tea excuse was good enough for the IOC in 1988.
