  • Good track books?

What are some good track books? Im a new coach and I'm looking for a good, in depth book that covers every level of track and field running and coaching, anything out there?

I bought Carr's Fundamentals of T&F but that was wayyy to basic

    any help?

    thanks -

    Sollie

    Hey Sollie!

I'm not a coach and frankly, aside from having watched a track meet once, don't know squat about the sport. Just ask the guys around here!

However, I can offer this. I don't know if you're much of bookstore aficionado, but the sports section of a Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc. have some decent selections you could spend a half hour working through to see if any of them meet your criteria. Most of what I've read are biographies. Check out "The Greatest: The Haile Gebrselassie Story"

Hey tafnut, mojo, and whoever else! Help the guy out.

Use the search function, about 6-12 months ago there was a thread on books.

It's currently out of print, but if you can find a used copy of the Ken Doherty book we published a few years back "Omnibook" I think you might find a lot of what you need.

Amazon currently has one copy of Omnibook

No. 2,687,657 on the best-seller list, and rising with a bullet!

The Omnibook was THE book when I became a coach - but this one is very good too:

When was the last revision to the Omnibook? I have the 2nd edition ('76) that my HS coach gave me back in the late 80's. Great book. I'd like to search for the latest and greatest though.

4th edition 1985. The Omnibook is definitely what I would recommend.
