DId anyone else hear Major League Baseball COO Bob DuPuy on ESPN radio this morning. It was pretty pathetic.
First, he responds to a questionby saying that baseball now has " the most comprehensive anti-drug program in sport." Well, well, I thought, perhaps he does not even dignify track & field or the olympics as a "sport." But then on the next question about Balco, he is quick to try to deflect criticism of baseball by noting that Balco involved "fifteen Olympic-level track & field athletes."
Meanwhile, MLB truned down having USADA run their drug-testing and they appoint George Mitchell who is on the Board of Directors of the Red Sox and Diney (which owns ESPN) to investigate? No conflict of interest? Give me a break.
I will not feel bad as baseball twists in the wind on the drug issue. They deserve it.
