It has to be done on their end--I'm still on hold.

I was on hold for 35 min. Once I got through, it took them literally no more than 1 min to fix the problem, and I was in.

So, like last summer, there were some initial glitches to work through (one of the guys in the office got the dreaded "you don't live in the U.S." messages). But all in all, was the system better or worse than last summer in trying to get up and running?

How was the broadcast quality compared to last summer?

            WCSN

I had no trouble signing on any days for the WIC in Moscow. For World XC couldn't sign on 1hr + on hold less than 1 minute to fix once they picked up.
Quality-Things look great[close to TV quality -for me at least-] when I have it as a small picture. If I go full screen[19"LCD-DSL connection] I get picture lag and definite down grade in picture quality. but it's still OK and much better than nothing like we normally have in non OLY years.
I still think the money is worth it. escpecialy if you get some of the wierd hours because of live coverage and time differnces you can always go back and see what ya missed. Since they save the footage.

I had absolutely no problem signing in or staying connected. Last summer I had to call once after not being recognized by the system, that got fixed pronto. LOVE IT!

I just got around to watching last night. Great job, WCSN! And thanks for including a little comedy, as well (when Carol Lewis pronounced Eritrea as "urethra." My belly still hurts.)

Carol also called Mottram "Mortron." Maybe he pronounces it that way. Sounds like an alien planet.

I had trouble accessing WCSN last year for other events but have had no trouble with the events in the T&F cross country package. Maybe it's sort of a hazing thing that you have to go through when you first sign on.

I think Carol did a great job with the commentary.

Yes, she did fine. Tough job IDing people in that big a crowd. But "urethra" was still damn funny.

Yes, it was. Don't get me started on some other commentators pronouncing Slavic and Hungarian names. Sometimes I don't know, if I want to cry or laugh. I like Carol Lewis. Unlike some others, she informs without patronizing.

I haven't watched yet, but Carol Lewis doing XC? If you say so. I was hoping for a couple of irreverent Brits like Ovett.

Just know that she gives two different performances. For the first hour of the webcast she seemed so unprepared that at times you wanted to cry but after that and, especially, on the second day, she actually made some wonderfully insightful and inspiring comments and seemed to be in to it and having fun.

Always curious about this: why don't commentators take the time to find out how names are really pronounced? I see this in other kinds of public events and it usually doesn't embarass the person whose name was mispronounced but rather the person speaking.

I also hear the same athlete's name pronouced maybe three different ways on the same telecast. Is putting in the research time too hard?

                                Pronuciation

With a races like the WXC races you don't have to study all 600+ atheletes names. probably over the 2 days less than 30indivudal atheletes were idetified by name. Not to hard to practice on.
