  • 2023 Pre Classic to be Diamond League Final

Dont see a news article yet but Tracktown USA just sent an email (and confirmed with many people at the meet) that Pre will be the Diamond League final in September next year.

Though it apparently will conflict with a Football weekend in Oregon, I'm hearing through the grapevine some plans to work with Football to promote...

Often pretty great. The wild card will be wildfires and attending air quality impact.

That's really great. I've always believed that meet should be isolated on the schedule. This will encourage more American stars in compete in Diamond League next year, give the Europeans a trip to look forward to near the end of the season, and remove some if not all of the shoe company tilt that has impacted who shows up.

I hope they stick to their format of the past several years---with a 1st day Distance Night---to include a Women's Two Mile and a Women's 10000, with several top HS'ers invited!!

the Pre timetable will be nothing like your wish-list.... they've got a formalized DL Final that mandates what all the events will be (and won't include high schoolers)

Loved the one-day DL finals in Zurich last year. Action packed with very little down time.

As long as the 5k runners are not running at the Teletubbies 3 lane track.

If it’s on a football weekend, it will be a zoo and housing for anyone coming from out of town for the track meet will be a huge problem

it was a 2-day last year with all the first-day events in downtown square (expect more of the same this time round)

Let's hope everyone who qualifies for the finals has their Visas signed off in time.

Picturing a strange out-of-the-blue moment where an invited prep wins the DL in some sort of Tom Byers performance and suddenly has a wild card to the next WC.

but seriously Garry, does the protocol prevent adding a couple non-DL events, such as the old "International Mile" where a top prep might be included?
