  • Hardee Misses CR By A Point At Texas

10.36 with a 2.5; old best 10.48 w/ a 2.2. Then outdoors PR in LJ and HJ. Guess that NCAA ankle injury has healed pretty well.

I'm not the most saavy when it comes to decathlon performances, but that's just amazing for a 10-eventer isn't it?

Is the run of PRs unusual? No, it happens frequently; I think Jenner had like 7 PRs in Montréal.

If my math is right, Hardee need run only 53.64 to end up the first day with the same score as he had in his PR 8041 two years ago.

I'll stick my neck out and say that anybody that can run a 10.36 should quit the dec and just pole vault.

Oh yeah, and if he matches the 48.54 he ran in the 8041, I have him at a whopping 4426.

No, I meant the 10.36. That's a helluva time for decathlete, right?

Hardee 49.11 for a first day of 4399. In the CR, Tom Pappas did 4441

Should Hardee simply match his second day from two years ago he'll be at 8242, No. 5 on the all-time Collegiate list.

I told him he didn't need those ligaments in his ankle. 8)

From what I have heard, wind just needs to be under 4.0 to be legal in the dec, right?

So far Trey ran a 100 with a 2.5 wind, while Donovan's heat was a 4.2 wind. Trey's best long jump was with a 3.0 wind, while Donovan had a 5.9 wind.

So if Trey's hurdles tomorrow stay under 4.0, does that mean his dec score will be wind legal while Donovan's will have a w next to it?

One of two conditions have to be met for wind legality in the multis.

Either all the readings have to be 4.0 or under, or the average of all three has to be 2.0 or under (or put another way, the sum total of the three can't be more than 6.0).

Hardee remains legal unless his hurdles hit 4.1. Coincidentally enough, Kilmartin is illegal (wind-aided) unless he has a HEADWIND of 4.1

Of course that same wind is probably messing up the times in the 400! And if it continues, the PV unless it's a tailwind.
I sometimes get the feeling that in the USA really good weather occurs for the decathlon about once every 10 years. Usually there are 20 mph winds, a downpour, the occasional funnel cloud, sometimes snow...

Andif the wind is from the wrong quarter it can destroy discus marks too.

There are relatively few people who ever get their all-time bests in "wind-aided" decathlons. Wonder if they should just throw out the wind consideration altogether?

I totally agree. Also, obviously Hardee had a monster first day, but it seems that Kilmartin did as well. Is that a first day PR for him? Glad to see both of them doing well.
