I hadn't even stopped to take a look at Kilmartin; he's 95 points ahead of first day in his PR. If he matches the second day he finishes just under 7900.

(note that for both Hardee and Kilmartin I'm talking about ahead of pace in their overal PR, not their best-ever first day, which aren't necessarily the same thing; I'm not enough of a decathlon honk to know if there's a difference)

Raining a bit here in the People's Republic of Austin... may or may not have an effect on the discus -- Hardee had another PR (13.83 w 3.1) in the 110H to open the day.

And a very nice opener in the discus, well over 150-0 for Hardee!

I didn't notice until just now that Powell fouled out in the LJ. Of course, the way things are going for Hardee, I'm not sure it really matters who else is in (or out) of the competition.

Hurdle mark adds another 42 over PR pace. Staying same rest of way now puts him at 8284. No. 4 on Collegiate ATL.

The average of his wind readings (2.5, 3.0, 3.1) was 2.86.

Does that mean his point total will NOT qualify him for the USATF Outdoor?

It does qualify him for the NCAA, but I believe the wind reading must be under 2.0 for record purposes if Hardee does manage break the collegiate record today.

              Is the above correct?

Wind readings only really matter in Trials years for USA qualifying.

Is that your general feeling or is that the actual rule? And you mean for World Championships or Olympics, right?

And the appeals committee for the OT, known for its we're-suckers-for-a-sob-story attitude, would never deny entry to anyone who had a wind-aided decathlon mark anyway.

NCAA doesn't ratify Collegiate Records, so they have no stance. Only people who do CRs are T&FN and FAST, and both adhere to IAAF/USATF rules, and Hardee mark is legal by those strictures (there were no readings over 4.0).

I'm sure they prefer the term, let's-not-deny-someone-just-cuz-of-a-stupid-technicality. In the multis, wind can be as hurtful as helpful.

Hardee's marks in his PR decathlon for the last 4 events, with the points he accrued

                          44.75 (762)
                          4.90 (880)
                          50.93 (602)
                          4:45.86 (644)

As gm noted, we know he exceeded the DT mark on his first throw; don't yet know what happened on last two. Stay tuned!

Trey just wasted the field with a speedy 13.83 (3.1 wind). Pretty good start to day two! I personally feel like Bubba made a mistake by entering Trey in the long jump at inddor nationals. If he wanted added points, I feel like he had a better shot in the short hurdle event.

Hardee projecting (with no more PRs) at 8284. Those ahead of him on the Collegiate ATL:

                              8463 Tom Pappas (Tn) 3/18/99
                              8322 Mike Ramos (Wa) 5/20/86
                              8304 Tito Steiner' (BYU) 6/03/81

Hardee had 158-3 for the DT.
I would not be surprised if he took it real easy in the 1500m this time. But I'll be curious about the JT. If he has improved in that as much as has in everything else, all records will soon be in jeopardy, not just the CR.
