I get these paces per 400, where I have converted the 300m and 100m segments to pace:

    79.3 79.3 first 400
    82.0 2:41.3 at 800
83.1 3:43.6 with one lap to go
    82.0 4:04.1 with 300 to go
    83.5 last 300

Thus, after the first 400 he was very steady; i think he knew what he could run and what he was aiming for (the record).

I know this won't format right, but the official results have him listed at 8465.

Where are we getting a 3 point difference?

To answer my own question, the event results for the 100 are listing him at 10.36, but the overall dec results list him at 10.35 :?

And now the event sheet has been changed to 10.35.

Has anybody ever missed a major multi record by so little before? Methinks not.
I had to go out and do errands, so this has probably been covered, Daley OG '84, missed WR by one point (the 3.5 lap victory saunter, did hurt him). As it turned out, Robin Sparks (I think) reread the HH photo, found .01, and Daley got the tie with Jurgen. It did matter, as even though the rescore of the event with '85 tables put Thompson well clear of Hingsen, IAAF wasn't going to award a WR, after the fact (like Bubkas indoor WRs aren't absolute, by IAAF).

J Pickler had a nice PR, 86 pts. What does the EXH for Dupree mean? Exhibition? She was listed as unat in the scoring sums, is TR collegiate only? According to last year's NCAA program, she still has elgibility. Her PR was a bit more than Pickler's, I think. At any rate, Selig and company may have company at the NCs.

I am going to have to dig a bit for the winds on Pappas' CR. The FAST annual just notes W (+4.0) and w(+2.0 - 4.0), but the actual readings are not there. The ATFS annual has the readings IF someone sent them in.

None of Pappas's marks were "w" (or "W")

I was late but saw his 5.30 misses. Unless he smoked 5.20 by a foot, he should have saved himself for the final 2 events. He bailed twice and had no real shot at it on his 3rd. Kilmartin didn't have any good attempts at it either.

I join pole vault power in being confused. How did the 10.36 turn into 10.35? Did Hardee miss it by a point or break it by two? Official results currently show 8465.

Home field advantage to get the 10.36 dropped to 10.35? If they don't explain the discrepancy it'll appear shady.

However, a photo review of day one’s 00-meter dash indicated Hardee completed the event in 10.35, rather than 10.36, thus, adding three points to Hardee’s total, giving him the NCAA decathlon record.

“Any time a record is close to being broken, I always go back and verify the results,” said meet official John Chaplin. “We re-read the photos from the running events. We found that in the 100 meters, Trey’s time read 10.35. The pictures will be sent to USA Track and Field and the NCAA, and the records committee will give its final approval.”

The NCAA and USATF don't maintain official collegiate records. The only thing the NCAA keeps track of is meet records for their championships. Save the 39 cents...

Winds for Pappas: 0.0, 0.9, -0.6 So, Pappas' mark intrinsically better. Now, if we factor in altitude ...... :-)
