I was about to post that it looked like I was unfairly targeting you after I quoted you, and it wasn't a personal post solely directed at you, but at the failure of others to be objective to all marks set in the 1980s....however, now you've gone and said you wouldn't question if SML/Mu broke the 400/800 records, I take it all back! 😁 I would love to be so...blissfully unaware! 😘

I just don't get the inconsistency in how the WRs from the 80s are viewed. To reduce it to Communist regime vs Capitalist regime is ludicrous. at this point unacceptable innuendo removed by mods. After all this time I'd think you'd know better.

Neither ATK, nor the rest of us, share your disregard of how far we've come in tracks, shoes, training, etc.. If SML and/or Mu break those records, it is merely testament to their talent and support. Your innuendo is just that.

I am a great Syd admirer but do we have examples of her 100 and 200 speed?

It's only two 23.8s in a row - piece of cake! Her 22.39 PR is from four years ago.

          • I lifted these from the 2019 wWC 400 thread:

            Salwa Eid Naser
            12.1 - 23.2 - 35.1 - 48.14
            12.1 + 11.1 + 11.9 + 13.1 (+25.0)

            Shaunae Miller
            12.1 - 23.6 - 35.7 - 48.37
            12.1 + 11.5 + 12.1 + 12.7 (+24.8)

            Marita Koch
            11.70 - 22.47 - 34.22 - 47.60
            11.70 + 10.77 + 11.75 + 13.38 (+25.13)

Not sure where the discrepancy lies with Koch's splits, she is widely credited with 22.4 at the 200 and a semi-official 34.14 at the 300 (with two turns!).

Point being, to get the WR one will need to hit the 300 sub-35 with two turns, something only SMU has done with one turn in the current era.

Curious how these splits differ from her 48.36 in Tokyo

I just ripped through the Tokyo wWC 400 thread, couldn't find splits (it devolved into 200 posts about Allyson Felix and her relay medal count, ugh).
I'm sure they are in the relevant T&FN issue, someone else will have to look the up

How far we have come...and yet, no other woman has come within half a second of Koch's record since. Someone with a question mark over them came within 54/100ths, and then after that the next is three quarters of a second behind the WR.

As for the 800m, since Kratochvilova ran that time, the best a woman could do is come roughly three quarters of a second behind it. Not even the apparent advantages DSD athletes have has been enough to break it.

you still don't get it, do you (more excised copy)? maybe a week's vacation will help.

                      • As this conversation is taking a turn for the worst, another more relevant comment on topic: I wonder if McLaughlin can once again win AOTY. Her 2 WRs made up for the very few races. But that hurdle WR won't be so easy to take down now. But if she does compete more often across various events, that will give her an edge to keep the AOY streak going.

Several folks, in another thread a while back, noted that the frontrunners for AOD were Sydney & Mondo. Thus far, that is spot on, especially if Sydney takes up the 400 with success.
