Note that China is also scheduled to host World Relays, two DL meets and WUG next year. I hope the relevant governing bodies are already looking for alternative hosts for these events.

I never held any anticipation for that 2023 meet, due to location. I remember expressing dismay here in a related thread after the 2022 world indoors, one discussing future sites. Why in heck are they keeping it in China?
Swimming postponed the 2022 world championships scheduled for Japan until 2023. The announcement came in early February 2022. Everyone assumed there would be no world championships in 2022. Many countries altered schedule plans. Then one week later FINA announced there would be 2022 worlds after all, now scheduled for Budapest.
However, swimming had considerably more flexibility with the schedule. They shifted world championships more than a month later than original date, from mid May to late June. Track and field seemingly doesn't have that option. It pretty much has to be that mid to late March time frame, especially given European indoor championships in early March 2023. They won't want to mess with that, or cramp it. There would have to be at least a 2 week gap for recovery and travel purposes.
Track organizations are seldom agile enough to pull off a late adjustment like that. The feature meet will be those European championships. That's what I was expecting anyway. If they were going to patch something the most logical remedy is to give it to Istanbul again, just like European indoors. Everything would already be in place, including staff and volunteers and media set up. Do it again 2 or 3 weeks later, merely altering the participant list somewhat.

I agree with Atticus about annual championships, for all of the same reasons. But it is not a fair comparison to hold up WA alongside MLB, NFL, NBA and other "world championships". They are ruled by strong, basically national organizations with strong ownership who would be capable of quickly responding to a situation such as the one in China. And with the amount of money associated with those sports, they are much more motivated.
I hope that a solution may be reached where the '23 WIC can find another venue, but the logistics will certainly be rougher.

Obviously got cancelled. Postponed to 2021. Postponed to 2022. After three years of negotiations, finally were able to convince the organizers to move to Canada, but only if China can still be in charge and run things. So Canada is hosting (and paying) but China gets to claim it to their people as a success.
I’m assuming there wasn’t enough pressure from WA to be able to move World Indoors.

I'm not sure I would want to see WCs every year. It might work if our sport was super-popular like Ami football, but it isn't. And the world-wide nature of athletics does create a lot of other factors (regional champs, etc.). Once argument I DON'T cotton to is "athletes need a down year". Come on. If you want a down year, that's on you, but these events aren't that taxing. The marathon has the longest recovery cycle for any one performance and you don't need a down year to keep running them.

World Indoor Championships every year are vital to keeping the sport's best together, which generates more publicity too.
I nominate the Podium in Spokane for the 2023 Champs. They could pull it off.

Why do we need annual world champs in athletics or swimming or even soccer. There is no serious argument that demands annual anything in sport
I suppose some posters would like athletics every year on your super duper track in you know where and you can win ALL the medals😁😁
Your remarks are so filled with utter bullshit, outright lies, and false innuendos!!
Annual championships in whatever sport is NOT an American invention!!
Didn't Oxford vs Cambridge predate any annual sporting event later seen in the US??
Wasn't Greece the birthplace of the Olympics??
Didn't baseball evolve from English cricket??
Didn't golf start in Scotland??
Anyway, my main argument for an ANNUAL World Championship of T&F (or, if you will, Athletics) is for fairness and opportunity for athletes!!
(It's a BIG reason I hate the DL format, where events are limited---thus unfair to those athletes in events left out!!
Aside from that, I see no reason why China's WIC's couldn't have been replaced, not postponed or cancelled!!
The OP suggested Glasgow as a potential replacement site.
It need not be as elaborate and complete as China's would've been in 2023.
Think of the Olympic "Trials" the US held in 1980, despite us boycotting the Moscow Games
It had the main elements of the real Trials, even while missing key athletes.
So hold a truncated WIC's next year....somewhere!!
Better than none at all!!
Again, this has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with American (or Eugene) favoritism, as your inane comments implied!!

I always thought the WC should go back to every 4 years, and move it to two years apart from the OG. This way every other year you have a Global championship, and the years in between can be set aside for rest/euros, commonwealth and any other lesser championships. .

ONLY T&F!!!!!
Disgusting, pathetic, and stupid!!!

Well on the bright side we may get more distance runners to run XC instead of 3000mi.
