If Allie Wilson is pacing the 1500 that means 5 of the remaining 10 are Ethiopians. It will be interesting to see if they attempt any team tactics to box and frustrate Kipyegon. That was clearly happening in Eugene but they didn't have the numbers.

If 3 of them are willing to give up their own prospects, they could make the race very unpleasant for Kipyegon. I'm sure the officials will be watching for intentional interference/fouls. Constant crowding/bumping should result in yellow cards early, though I've never seen that in running.

Hodgkinson vs. Moraa is the most intriguing race, IMO. Hodgkinson has no idea where Moraa will be at any given point of the race but she can't shake the reality that Moraa outfinished her both times they were head to head, and neither one was mere inches like the Eugene final against Mu. If Hodgkinson wins she can have a content offseason. If it happens again then Moraa will be in her head.

After this years long and full programme it was bound to happen. De Grasse is entered and he is not fully fit and I noted Gabby Thomas, to my surprise after her injured year, is in the 200m. .

Thomas ran in the 100m today in Padova....and not well.

Hodgkinson vs. Moraa is the most intriguing race, IMO. Hodgkinson has no idea where Moraa will be at any given point of the race but she can't shake the reality that Moraa outfinished her both times they were head to head, and neither one was mere inches like the Eugene final against Mu. If Hodgkinson wins she can have a content offseason. If it happens again then Moraa will be in her head.

I'm glad Dalilah qualified. She looked good today while barely outlasting Andrenette Knght. Dalilah was another beneficiary of a withdrawal. Jessie Knight was 8th on points but announced on Instagram two weeks ago that she was, "Tapping out of season 2022."

Klaver makes it in based on Miller-Uibo not showing up. Frankly it sounds like Kielbasinka doesn't want to show up either. She thought her season was over until she realized she qualified on points. She posted a photo of herself laying down exhausted on the track after the recent race. The caption in translation was, "Looks like it wasn't my last 400m this season. I hope the last one will be easier to swallow."

Courtney Frerichs did not earn a Diamond League point this year. Nor did Karsten Warholm.

BTW, it's not a Diamond League race but I'm glad Lisanne de Witte got a spot in the 400 of the Zurich pre program. She's had a difficult season while dealing with a serious concussion. The race is also one day before she turns 30. I just realized that today while looking at her profile on World Athletics. There was a small meet in Groningen today. I thought both de Witte sisters would compete but it looks like only Laura did.

I'll remain skeptical about Niyonsaba. She announced on Instagram after the recent win, "I'm back and I'm very happy!...The season is not over!"

She referred to the injury in the past tense.

Then two days ago suddenly she remembers she felt pain in her hamstring. Yeah, apparently while grimacing at the top of the stretch just before the sprint finish. She announces she won't be able to defend her Diamond League title.

Somebody in her camp is managing her schedule and manipulating things to remain out of the limelight and scrutiny as much as possible, whether or not she realizes what is going on. Any slight injury is deemed grounds not to compete.

No surprise that in a shitty social media world the clever people know how to play the self publicity game.

Why would I speculate about Hobbs? She's clearly in the final, is the USA's most consistent sprinter, and will almost always medal. Don't project your feelings and judgement of a woman sprinter onto me via the world of T&FN's social media forum. Some of us find comeback stories interesting.

How does Kambundji make it into the w100m say over Davis who beat her head up? Do the Swiss get some in because they hosting it? It is not just by the standings......

i'm GUESSING it's because they put in the top 8 in the standings (which is the default) then allowed the organizers a freebie for the extra lane 9.

M 5000 has 11, one pacer.

The split of the events into the two days being so unequal, cramming most of the events into Thursday, is why the field events are only getting six. In 2019 and earlier, they had 8 to 12, even 13 in 2019 M PV. So that means there are a lot of world class athletes not getting to compete under this format.

The reason only six in field events is that they are cramming almost everything into Thursday's meet. Only SPs, M HJ, W PV on Wednesday.

But the women you mentioned as World champions havent the points needed and never were interested in the DL this year. Mu and SM far more interested in medals than this DL thing.

Alan, Jake is confirmed for the 800m only. He's done for the longer distance except the 5th Avenue mile

BAD, BAD, BAD News!!! They are running the 5000s Wednesday on that abomination of a "track". I thought that was a one-time thing; the athletes said it was not appropriate for a championship. It's just a two-hour TV window on Thursday, too, with 21 events crammed in. I hate this!

She will likely do not much. She was due in the race as DAS is not in Zurich and there are 9 in the final.anyway. The rules about 6 athletes in the field events changed to 7 once, I think, and un qualified athletes entered should be noted. Swiss guy in the short hurdles??. The Pole Sieradski in the mens 800m did not qualify ,surely..
