There is an argument to be made that 2021 and 2022 have already been the greatest years for the 400m since the 1980s:
2022: 9 women ran sub-50 a total of 21 times (so far)
2021: 12 women ran sub-50 a total of 29 times
1988: 11 women ran sub-50 a total of 23 times
1984: 11 women ran sub-50 a total of 49 times
(As you can see, 1984 was wild. Time wise, were not even close as Koch's world lead of 48.16 brought 4 women sub-49 on 7 occasions through the year, along with 20 sub-49.50 times. That year was nasty)
