    • Bol also won the 200m with a new Dutch indoor record, beating Klaver's time in previous heat

            • What's fascinating is in all their speed sessions in training, Klaver beats Bol , yet when it comes to these 200m races, which became time trials, Bol was faster.
Klaver had put pressure on herself to run sub 23, and Bol had a target to beat. But maybe Bol can just lift herself in a race better.

Yes. Makes me wondering what the time could have been if they ran the same heat....

Agreed. I'm convinced that whilst Bols speed has massively improved this winter, Klaver is still faster over 200m. A head to head would have been fun.

Interesting that Bol's 200m.split in her 400 was 23.9, compared to Klaver's 24.1 and 24.2 in her two races this year. When they race each other Klaver will I'm sure open in sub 24.

Would she have been possibly slower? More traffic at the break isn't exactly a good thing.

We were discussing Klaver <> Bol on the 200m, so no break. But we will never know whether they will be faster or slower: I do not see any 200m indoor clash between the two in their schedules.

I guess if Klaver would run sub 24 on the first 200m, she will be too much slower on the second half of the race....

                        • It makes you wonder whether Bol should be running the flat 400m in Budapest and not the hurdles...

Klaver is always immediately ahead of Bol in the speed sessions including a couple of weeks ago in South Africa when both Klaver and Kielbasinka gapped Bol by a step or two. I think outdoors it will remain the same. Bol for whatever reason is very well suited for indoors.

Regardless, last week wasn't a surprise but this one is truly astonishing. Many of the best 400 women ever have never come close to threatening 50 indoors. Until today I was thinking she would likely drop her personal best to something like 50.12 in the national final next Sunday.

It's also the first result that legitimately calls into question whether Bol is prioritizing the correct event outdoors, at least this year with Miller-Uibo out. Even if the transition to 14 strides works perfectly Bol won't be within a half second of McLaughlin, and given the weakness of Bol's right lead there's always a small chance of clipping a barrier and crashing out of the medals altogether. I saw quotes from Bol yesterday in a European Athletics article in which she conceded she doesn't know how many hurdles she'll be able to go 14 before switching back to 15. She said it would be after 3, 5, or 7. Sydney already takes 14 through 7.

No, no, no, no, no, no.

( I want Femke to beat Sydney. I have the vision it will happen. )

And have I mentioned "no," and also, "no"?
