Just over six months to go until his match race against Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce... 😏

    • Has Lavillenie retired? He is in these videos and definitely not suited up.

      • Mondo's hips were way over the bar, but it looked like his knees cleared the bar by only about 2-3cm.

Of course it's an amazing accomplishment, and a very clean vault, but I don't think he had much more in him that day.

That's just standards placement (which, of course, is what he's fighting every jump). He's mastered hip height on nearly every jump, but getting the standards right (within just a few cm's) requires knowing things that naturally vary every jump like: take-off location, speed of take-off, take-off angle, swing speed, push-off, body jackknife position - not to mention pole and grip selection. The PV is such a complicated algorithm, it's a wonder ANYone gets it right.

Agree. The hip clearance is misleading. I guesstimated about 5 cm for the right knee. Still a magnificent vault.

Data from Eugene were very insightful on that matter, with maximum height (necessary but not sufficient) and minimum distance from the bar at any time (which is more telling about the real margin).
