Angelina Topic has an Instagram story video of herself long jumping 6.50 today. Not bad considering Ayla Hallberg won the European U18 outdoor championship last year at 6.39. Topic is 17.

I doubt she's going to seriously pursue this event but I think it's good strategy from her dad to keep the training diversified and interesting as opposed to high jump alone. Plus it helps to build speed and explosiveness. Angelina always has a long indoor season including some multisport events. She also tinkers with long jump and triple jump meets during early outdoor season. It looks like her prior long jump personal best was 6.31 a few weeks ago. She had a 1.93 high jump in December and 1.90 last weekend.

Bol got sloppy during a weightlifting session about a week ago, not watching the bar as she dropped it. Fortunately it wasn't as serious as it could have been. She said she had a blue right shin.

Other members of that camp will start their indoor season sooner but Bol doesn't debut until February 11. That will probably be the trend every year. She clicks off 50.6 or 50.7 with regularity so no need to do wear out over 6 weeks before the tournaments begin.

World Best for Keely Hodgkinson in the 600 at the Manchester Indoor Tour Bronze meeting ... 1:23.41, taking down Olga Kotlyarova's 2004 mark by 0.03s. Went through 400 in 54.59.

I'm amazed how Keely has the ability to come out and run so well in her first race of the season. She did the same last season with a UK record in the 800m.

She's right there with a HS junior. Not knocking the performance at all. The comparison to what Mu ran as a HS junior I wonder about.

Indeed…but for now, that’s the quickest Mu has officially run the distance (indoors). Clearly, she had the jump on KH early in their careers - it remains to be seen if they progress at the same rates

I thought Hodgkinson looked a bit thinner and in very good shape. Too bad the camerawork was so poor in that race. I don't know why they cut away from her for so long to show the two stragglers, especially during the key moment when the pacer relinquished.

Not a great debut for Isayah Boers of the Netherlands in the same meet. He talks a big game but continues to tie up badly late in the race, somewhat like Lieke Klaver but considerably worse. Boers clearly false started today. I guess it's a friendly so they proceeded with merely a warning. Boers looked good on the first lap, leading comfortably at 21.7. But anyone aware of his tendencies wasn't surprised when he stood straight up and had nothing left down the stretch. They apparently gave him the heat win at 47.43, even though Jenny Meadows thought he lost at the tape and it looked that way to me. Regardless, Boers' time of 47.43 was worse than anything he posted among 7 indoor 400s last season.
