    • Katir 3:35.48 WL

      Zango 17.48 win
      Martinez 17.16
      Diaz H 17.09

Uh oh, Lay Johnson wins w60H in 7.82 and is handed a "World Lead" sign . . . It is NOT, not that WA cares.

She stopped with a lap to go and had to restart!

m60H - Dickson ties his PR to win in 7.53. [GH and TC run in a coupla hours in Boston]

Credit to the original pacemaker for remaining on the track not too far beyond the finish line. She was the one who immediately noticed Welteji had stopped one lap too soon, and chased after her to essentially shove her back into the race. It looked like meet official contributed in the same manner.

Welteji needs to race with more confidence in the huge races. I was hoping she'd finish it off with a big world leading time to jumpstart that confidence. She does look a bit heavier and stronger.

            • Pia is really looking good. I just saw a clip of that world leading time. She is snapping her leg to the ground very quickly.

despite what WA would have you believe, the world-leading time is 7.75 by Masai Russell

So why doesn't WA acknowledge it?

                        • Yes, I read that but the specific reason is not known. From my understanding it is either the general rule or a specific one listed in the article:

                          The General one:

Furthermore, the international federation — with USATF obligated to agree and supportive of the underlying rationale — is requiring that in order for performances to be recognized, meets also must be listed on WA’s Global Calendar. In order to appear on that Calendar, U.S. meets must be sanctioned or endorsed by USATF.

One of these specific ones: Looking at them it can only be number 1 for the 60mH.

Most NCAA competition rules are the same or are stricter than World Athletics competition rules and will require no modifications. There are three additional key rule requirements that NCAA meets would have to follow to meet World Athletics competition rules requirements, and all should have minimal burden on meet management or officials.

                          1. Shoes worn in competition must be listed as approved on the latest World Athletics shoe list, which is posted online. Random shoe checks must be completed by a meet official, and coaches or competitors may protest the legality of another competitor’s shoes following normal protest rules.

                          2. The horizontal jumps events must include a mechanism for a video review of fair/foul jumps at the toe board. This can be as simple as placing a phone/iPad/GoPro or other camera on a tripod, pressing play at the start of the event, and only stopping to review if a jump is protested.

                          3. In laned track events, any two steps on the inside lane line at any point during a competition, including across multiple rounds of the same event in a meet, must result in disqualification.

So which is it? Was the meet not endorsed by USATF or number 1 - shoe compliance? Or Both?

                          • Laura De Witte followed last week's 56.10 with 57.21 today. She is simply not national team caliber at this point. I don't know what they'll do. Shame because by all indications she put in all the work during the offseason.

Saallberg and Bouma improved by small amounts and are basically where they were last year at this point. But they really need Bouma to drop a full second and there hasn't been any indication of that last year or so far this season. Bol could sit out the relay prelims if Bouma were more of a sure thing.

The track in Łódź is a temporary one and not necessarily the fastest (and neither is Düsseldorf). Waiting to see what she can do in Toruń on Wednesday. She's been saying her goal this winter was to break the NR and she's now just 0.01 away.

It's really strange, because as you say, in the training videos she looked good. Out of those 9 competitors at that low level, national meet, she finished 8th fastest 😮 There has been no mention of an injury. Thankfully the European Indoor 4x4 is a straight final so she wont be in it. Let's see how she progresses outdoors.

If we assume Bol, Klaver, Lisanne & Saalberg are the top 4 outdoors this summer, if Laura gets to 54.+ again, no doubt she will be in the relay team - because her relay leg/flat differential can be a massive 2 seconds. She is the least risk and most reliable of the 'other women'. After that, Bouma is the obvious choice. Despite Peeters improved form, that baton mishap and subsequent ridiculous leg in Eugene puts me off including her in a World team.
