As noted in a report linked on the home page, junior Clay Shively (Trinity Academy, Wichita, KS) ran a mile in 4:04.95 to break Jim Ryun's Kansas State HS Indoor record.

Looks like the HS mile will be another doozy this year.

I believe credit and mention for this 17-year-old junior should also go to his high school coach, Randy Mijeras. T&F articles on sensational accomplishments are always listed as the high school athlete and their high school's name. The real developer of this amazing 17-year-old is his coach who trains and oversees his physical, mental, and preparation for his races. He/She should get equal credit and recognition for this unbelievable time. Coach Mijeras, congratulations to a job well done and wish you continued success in the development of Clay.

In the same venue that saw a women's national 60 meter hurdle collegiate record go down to Masai Russel of the University of Kentucky at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open, IMHO the performance of the day happened later that evening when 6 foot 6 inch 245 lb Nyckoles Harbor went 6.66 in the boys 60 meter dash at the Texas Tech Under Armour High Schol Classic and wait for it, in the prelims, and even more impressive in heat 32 of 39!

Don't know if this young man can repeat or better his performance in the finals because he is running the 200 meter prelims in the morning in heat 68 of 68.

Seymour and Newbury Park's Young brothers are running in the USATF U20 XC Championships today in Virginia, so a trip to Gainesville to race on Sunday would not be out of the question.

BTW, Alexio Young finished 12th, in 24:26!!

To remind those who may not know...Harbor is a 5 star edge rusher in football at this point. So we don't know the long range track career he may have.

Quincy Wilson of Bullis (MD) had frosh class HSRs over 300 and 500 at the Officials HoF Invite at The Armory: 34.11 and 1:02.63. I believe the former was a William Reed mark.
