In an announcement Wednesday, the University of South Carolina proved that it is far from finished competing with the University of Southern California for the “USC” acronym.

According to a press release, the Carolina college will retire its “UofSC” logo mark used since 2019 and “simplify its branding marks” in the latest installment of the two schools’ feud over brand rights. Beginning Jan. 4, 2023, California’s USC will officially share the “USC” abbreviation with Carolina.

Some years ago, I had a project in South Carolina, they kept talking about USC and it took quite a while before I understood they weren’t talking about the University of Southern California.

Sophia Gorriaran 2:01.16 today in Boston behind Michaela Rose's great # 2 a-t collegian performance. Gorriaran's mark is just off her # 2 a-t PR from last year (# 3 a-t performance). She also announced she's headed to Harvard this afternoon.

In Albuquerque Friday Oregon HS junior Mia Brahe-Pedersen ran 22.89 to smash the HS record in the 200 set by 2-time Olympian, Bianca Knight. Made more impressive with comparison to 2nd and 3rd on list, Allyson Felix 23.14 and Sanya Richards 23.23. MBP was .03 behind Oregon stud Jadyn Mays in fast heat.

Shawnti Jackson 22.91 in the USC Indoor Open (Columbia SC) ... just off the new HSR, but best ever at low-altitude.

Mia Brahe-Pedersen only turned 17 on 28 Nov so she is still making young person progress, just from a very high level already.

It's easy to see when compared to last year's first 4 runs of the season.

                    60i

                    2022 7.59 - 7.47 - 7.53 - 7.56 = 7.538 mean
                    2023 7.45 - 7.35 - 7.36 - 7.26 = 7.355

The sequence both years were H,F,H,F but 2022 was across 2 months (29 Jan and 11/12 Mar) and was her entire season and 2023 has been over 2 WEEKS (28 Jan and 11 Feb), so there may be more improvement to come if she competes for another month.

She went on to run a PB over 100m of 11.25 +1.4. Given how much better she is in still conditions, can she go 11 flat with a nice wind later this year?

                    200i

                    2022 23.86 - 23.44 = 23.65 mean
                    2023 23.49 - 22.89 = 23.19

Over 200, she has only run straight finals at the same competitions as in the 60m above.

Her new indoor PB of 22.89 is faster than her outdoor PB of 22.98 -0.6 and average time is already 0.25 better than her previous PB of 23.44i. Is 22.5-22.6 on the cards outdoors?

Aaron Sahlman opens his (serious) outdoor season with 1:50.25 at The Ten. Went out hard in a shade over 52. It's not a warm day, he's probably satisfied with this mark. 5 others under 1:55, but AS won by three seconds.

In a heat of the boy's 200 at the Nike INdoor Champs, lane 5 and 4 ran outside their lanes, lane 5 being the most blatant.
No impeding the other runner, but lane 5 was definitely outside his lane!
                                DQ????
