What existing record?! 🤔 Did I miss something? I was at the Garden when Gail Devers at 40 ran 7.86 at the 2007 Millrose Games. Did they think anyone would forget that? Lolo has a very long way to go.

Evidently, Devers' result was never ratified:

          As Ken Stone explains here:

...the elites run 33-inch hurdles instead of the age-groupers’ 30, and the spacing between hurdles is different.
So Devers' result is superior to the W40 record, but can't be ratified. Jones' result is likely to suffer the same fate.

50.59 for Abby Steiner at Arkansas, an inch or two ahead of Shamier Little in 50.64.

Anna Hall 51.45 to win her section.

S Little definitely should say adios to 400h and concentrate on 400m...

Steiner's arm swings are very low, similar to mid-d runners than sprinters.

True. But she'll choose to keep struggling in the 400mh.

Tough crowd. She is fifth fastest A-T in the 400H. She is just unfortunate to be running at the same time as
                        SML.

                            Yeah, she really sucks 😵‍💫

Far be it from me to put words in 18.99s' mouth, but I will anyway.

I think he might be referring to her competitive outcomes of zero OG teams and a WC silver (2015) and 4th 2022. Compare that to younger SML and Bol and the older Muhammad and it shows that Little's return on investment is rather poor given her fast times.

Sure, she can hope for one of those to get injured or retire but she herself turns 28 in a few months, so that's a potentially risky strategy. Alternatively, the flat 400m seems to have more opportunity for somebody who already has a sub-50 PB off only a few flat races every year.

Relatively struggling. She'll probably never win a global medal again, and will continue to miss making the World or Olympic team half the time like in 2016, 2019, and 2021. Her scared-arms "technique" for clearing the hurdles, which she has been unable to correct after 7 as a pro, makes her consistently inconsistent, and will often keep her off the podium in the US trials or global finals.

But if she specialised in the 400 flat, technique becomes far less important, she'd be running sub-49.5, and would make the US team every time, and be one of the favorites to medal (albeit probably not gold -- but she'd be closer to gold in the 400m flat than in the hurdles).
