It's still a time 99% of the male population have no hope of ever running. While it's no longer truly elite internationally, it's still a notable benchmark on the way to the top just like there are in other events. The difference being that it is one that is recognised by more people than a 50 second 400H, a 7' HJ, 20m SP or 2 minute women's 800.

Agree, but what is second place in the minds of casual, once every 4 years fans? Is there a time, metric measure, or something in feet that is second to the 4 minute mile? At some point in not so far future it might be the 2 hour marathon, until then I'm stumped. Nothing like the 4 minute mile.

"Hijack" seems a bit harsh! Not everyone is as aware as the Administrator and his annoyance of all the threads on a particular subject. I don't think I even once commented on one of them. I simply responded to the recent list posted by someone of all the sub-4's. Is there an official non-hijack sub-4 thread?

Also in the meet with "The Ten" are races 800-5000, and the top of the Newbury Park squad are entered, including Leo Young running with the big boys in the 1500. Aaron Sahlman, Colin's little brother and the national XC champion recently, is in the prep 800, where he ran sub-1:49 last year. (Different meet, same distance for the 1:48+.)

I'm figuring SteveU will keep an eye on them and post in the HS thread.

Edit - oh wait, this is an indoor thread. Do we not yet have a US outdoor thread yet?

Woody Kincaid and Joe Klecker had a pretty good tussle over 10,000 tonight, with Kincaid winning in 27:06.37 (No. 5 all-time US performer) and Klecker 27:07.57 (No. 8).

Alicia Monson loses to McColgan but gets the AR! 30:03.82, almost 10 seconds off the existing record

McColgan set a British NR of 30:00.86

Elly Henes to No. 6 US performer at 30:48.26, Natosha Rogers to No. 7 at 30:48.69.

There's at least one thread questioning the value of sub-4 as a quality measure but most arguments arise in result threads, like this one! There is a reason gh is pissed off with it and it is a hijack.

Wow! That's Paula Radcliffe's record from the 2002 Europeans that was 2nd on the all-time list at the time.
