Sam Dale and most of our male LJers also very very fortunate to even be in Budapest...

When I think of some of the athletes of old who missed out and see some of this year's team..

As we all know, he only scraped into the team cos Cam Myers pulled the plug on '23.

It seemed unfair that Ramsden was in the team at all. Can't recall the last time he impressed (Nitro Series?)

    W1500 2023

    Heat 3
    7. Sintayehu VISSA 4:01.66 PB, fastest ever non-Q, was 4:05.72, 1999 (IAAF Stats book).

    W1500 1999

    Heat 1
    6. Hayley Parry-Tullett (GBR) 4:05.72

    Heat 2
    8. Lyudmila Rogachova (RUS) 4:05.72

Interestingly, 1999 was two Heats direct to final, so could be considered by some to be more the equivalent of a semi-final. Stats book lists fastest non-Q to final from a SF as 4:01.80, 2019.

    W1500 2019

    SF 2
    8. Jessica Hull (AUS) 4:01.80 PB (as listed above by V-e)

All three Aussies girls had to work hard to get through. Not sure if anyone's clocked 4.01 at WCs before and been run out of the heats the way the poor Italian girl was.

Today I learned on the WC commentary that there is a Pacific nation named after Ash's sister, Kiri Barty, and that Geordie Beamish is Linden Hall's "teammate". I now believe both these things to be true...

    W1500 Heats - first 6 proceed

    Heat 1
    5. Abbie Caldwell 4:04.16 Q
