Aiden Hinson's PB pushed him to #17' AT AUS performer moving past Murphy the younger. To get into the top-10, he needs to pass the 16.66 +0.7 of Julian Konle. Interestingly, the median age of performances ahead of him on the AT list is over 24 years and only 2 of them in the last 5 years...

Last year was his last U-20 year and he finished at #4` on the U-20 list (IAAF):

      1 16.62 +1.5 Henry FRAYNE Beograd 07 JUL 2009
      2 16.30 +1.1 Alwyn JONES Manchester 03 JUL 2004
      3 16.19 +0.2 Peter BURGE Seoul 19 SEP 1992
      4 16.16 +0.3 Aiden HINSON Sydney 01 APR 2022

It will be interesting to see if he follows Frayne and Burge to LJ or if he's going to be the next Alwyn Jones - sticking pretty much to the TJ. For what it's worth his LJ PB is 7.61, set in his first LJ comp last year, where he improved his PB by about 50cm! That's right near Jones' 7.66 PB (set at age 20).

Hinson's previous best of 16.16 was set during the 2022 Nationals Senior final where he finished third. He also spanned 16.32 in that competition but with a raging +4.4. He had a couple of jumps at Interclub late last year with a best of 16.26, again with a robust +4.5.

I think that December jump showed he was at least in the same condition as he finished last domestic season. Now that he's entered senior ranks he's jumped twice over his old PB in one comp, indicating more to come later in the season.

Well we currently have four sub-13 female hurdlers. And four guys sub 13.8. So pretty good for a country like us with a small population.

And two of our decathletes (and a kid who made his senior 110H debut last week) sub-14 as well as our Olympic decathlon medallist on 14.08.

I think we're happy enough with that standard - a hurdler like Sally is a once in a few decades type of athlete.

NZ should send women's 4x1 and 4x4. A men's 4x1 would almost be competitive if it includes Eddie before he goes to NFL tryouts. A men's 4x4 would be slower than an Aus B team, and probably a C team as well.

I would like to see some sort of regular plan.

eg - a relay camp held about the time of our All-Schools Champs in December. AUS would invite NZL & OCE teams to this camp and besides running invitation 4x1, 4x4 & mixed 4x4s they could maybe run some Oceania 60m, 100y championships during the All-Schools. Maybe AA or Oceania pays 50% of expenses for visiting teams.

In February - AUS Multis/Relays could be held somewhere like Canberra and NZL/OCE teams could be invited. Maybe AA pays 25% of expenses as long as relay teams are guaranteed. These could also be Australian relay champs with states entering teams (though Australian selection would deplete some). Maybe JPN/CHN/other teams also invited (at own expense) and they could stay for individual events at MEL/SYD continental meets.

BRS Continental meet could have 4x1s and maybe 4x4 mixed where NZL/other countries also invited (no AA subsidy).

If suddenly a NZL or whoever team pulls out, AA should pay for a Papua or other team to come and run to legitimise the race. I would also urge AA to lobby WA that 'OCE' teams of multi-nations count as 'national teams' in relay qualifications.

11-year-old runner breaks two world age group records in three days

Last weekend, Sophie Hall, an 11-year-old runner and swimmer from Melbourne, Australia, made local headlines as she set not one, but two world age group records in three days.

On Jan. 24, Hall ran a personal best time of 4:28.19 over 1,500m at the Victorian Milers Club meet, then she followed it up with a 3,000m in 9:38.16 at the U14 Victoria Track and Field Championships in Geelong.

Wow! Both on the same day too! Got to say she does not look 11. And what's up with AUS athletics? How could there be such a gap between her and girls 3 years older? Is AUS failing in recruiting talent for T&F?

To be fair that 3000 time has only ever been beaten by 4 British 14 year old girls and she was running in the Victoria state Champs not a national one.
