Start lists for the Adelaide challenger meet on Saturday are out:

Interesting that Aidan Murphy & Michael Romanin can only make the B & C races respectively in the 100m.

Matt Centrowitz will add some interest to the men's 800m as will Olivia McTaggart in the women's vault.

Of interest to Australian readers - the long standing NZ mens triple jump record set by Aussie born Phil Wood at 16.22 in 1978 has finally fallen. 20 yr old Sth African based Kiwi Welre Olivier was out to 16.48 (1.0) yesterday in Potchefstroom, younger brother 17 yr old Ethan also had a good day equalling Phil's mark and in the process improving his NZ U20, U19 and U18 records.

Speaking of 'passports of convenience' as we were earlier...

I just noticed on the Adelaide start lists that Dhruv Rodgriguez Chico is listed as NZL..

Where did this come from?? Has he ever stepped foot on NZL soil?

ETA - oh... he raced there last week...

That bloody Tauriki is a good recruiter! It's just a shame that NZL's supplementation program was found floating at sea recently...

            IAAF says

AUS until 11 DEC 2022 – eligible to represent NZL in National Representative Competitions (see World Athletics Eligibility to Represent a Member Rule 1.2.1 a) from 12 DEC 2022

Wow - that name is a blast from the past...

I can see some sense in NZL recruiting our (possibly) B-grade athletes & the guys/girls figuring NZL is the best chance they have to get to a Comm Games or similar event. But it's become an annoying thing over the past few years with Nketia, Zhoya and now Chico who are all still fairly young.

I would like to know more about how it happened since I'm sure citizenship for someone who possibly hasn't set foot in the country would surely take some time to organise. And an interview with Chico a few years back had him quoted as saying 'I would love to represent Australia some day but a lot of work to do yet' (paraphrasing).

Also - Matt expecting to get his arse (hey, it's an Aussie thread - any Seppos that are viewing) kicked over our summer season.

American Olympic champion runner Matthew Centrowitz will compete in races in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney as he makes his comeback from injury, with his eyes firmly on making the Paris Olympic team.

Actually it was Tuariki I think? (aka former backwards-somersaulting WR-holder.)

                          • NYT (non-paywalled) article about Olli Hoare

Olli Hoare, one of the world’s top middle-distance runners, has excelled with a combination of travel, the right kind of stress and his favorite soft drink.

There are some news articles in the press, quoting him around July of last year but nothing since.

He obviously hasn't passed away as there would be news articles noting this as he was a NZ government minister in addition to his athletics career.

He's alive and well, competed with him at a Masters meet in January. He is getting old so may have forgotten how to use the technology! ;-)
