Oh, is their Teleportation Booth finally working?

      • Watched Owens-Delerme run a couple of 300s while the ladies were warming up for the hurdles. So I was disappointed, but not surprised, when he did not toe the line for the 100.

          Didn’t need one…

          • David I really wish I could be there for this meet. And I already have a conflict for the distance carnival Sound Running is having there in three weeks. I've still not seen the new stadium after all those years in that cramped little booth.

Wouldn't be the same without the dust and parking right behind the booth!

              • Did Bougard withdraw? Or actually scratch three times in the SP?

Scratched three times, at least once intentionally. A repeat of her nonperformance at the USATF last year?

                  • A different question: how does heptathletes' training actually look like for the 800m? I was told when I was young that some of them just run LSD-ish distances twice a week for aerobic endurance and there was nothing else, as all of their other disciplines are dominantly technique/explosiveness oriented, but I never did ask the athletes themselves.

Great 4500+ first day for Garland with nice PRs in the 100 and SP. Can anyone "on the ground" there tell us what the conditions are like/going to be like for Day 2?

                      • Pretty cool most of the day, especially last half of HJ and 400, tomorrow supposed to be cooler. Could be two big scores and Garland and Williams will push each other. Homestretch wind in 400 of second heat was brutal.

That's a difficult question as there are so many variables that include the athlete's strengths and natural abilities, health/injury status, body type, etc. I would say it ranges from virtually no 800 specific training to mostly interval type training, but at a slower pace, that an 800 or 400/800 specialist might do. I'm not aware of many elite heptathletes (or decathletes) that do a lot of over distance LSD training other than "going for a run" a few mornings a week at most.

I knew one coach who really felt decathletes should train for running a fast 1000, and heptathletes a 600, would time trial them at those distances, and would just let them "gut it out" in the 800/1500. Repeat 300's to 500's with little rest, etc.

There's such a fine line between training for the 800/1500 for mutieventers, and injury or stress from overtraining. Anna Hall and Ayden-Owens are eexceptional "last eventers," I'd really be curious as to how the both train for the 800/1500.

This could be one of those meets that really comes down to the 1500..... exciting!

                            • Question about WR ratification in the Deca - if there is wind over the 2m limit in any measured event can it still be ratified?

                                And the port-a-potties.

you knew you had arrived at Mt SAC when you got clearance to park behind the booth. One year I did it by saying I was Doug Speck, because I knew he wouldn't be there on Sunday, but eventually I got on the list.
