Great for the names and hype! What's really exciting is that SML must be working on short speed, which will translate to her goal of attacking the flat 400m this year. But being honest...this race might be like the 60mH race SML ran at New Balance in 2021.

Note this is only the 2nd non-hurdle race she has run since May 2019 (excluding relays ofcourse).

    Announced Fields so far:

    Womens 60m
    Shericka Jackson
    Aleia Hobbs
    Mikiah Brisco
    Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

    Mens 60m
    Noah Lyles
    Trayvon Bromell
    Marvin Bracy-Williams

    Womens 300m
    Gabby Thomas

    Mens 60mH
    Grant Holloway
    Trey Cunningham

    Womens PV
    Katie Moon (née Nageotte)
    Katerina Stefanidi

    Mens 800m
    Mariano Garcia
    Bryce Hoppel

    Mens 3000m
    Jake Wightman

    Womens 3000m
    Laura Muir
    Ciara Mageean

      Thanks!

SML will be DFL, but that's fine!
      Bracy for the win.
      m60H - Yay!
w3000 - LM always keeps it honest.

I'd like to see Holloway in a flat 60m. Just for grins.

          6,50 in 2019.
He's the fastest starter we have IMO, even over CC.

That was my impression. She wouldn't be doing this unless Kersee thought the benefit translated to a different event later. The only time she tinkered with atypical events was 2021 while trying to acclimate to hurdling with either lead in transition to 14 steps.

I have fairly little doubt that Sydney could be a world/Olympic champ in the 200 and world/Olympic medalist in the 100. Her flat speed/speed endurance is her biggest strength.

She and Warholm are the GOATs at SE. They go out ridiculously hard and then just keep going. Unbelievable!

I'd take that bet(s). In fact, make it a parlay

You, me and everyone on this forum COULD be World/Olympic champ in the 100 & 200m as well, but a lot of dominoes would have to fall for that to happen 🙂
Sure SML has less dominoes in front of her than we do, but still ALOT of dominoes.

We all fall prey to hyperbole, but I see no evidence that SML could run the times needed for that. There's no doubt her current PB's in some events aren't representative of her ability right now (the flat 400m...) However, I don't believe focusing solely on the 100/200 would take her to the form she'd need to beat an in-form Jackson, Thompson etc. over the half lap.

Not long ago, but possibly before you joined, I seem to recall someone on here basically arguing that track and field athletes who specialise in events other than 100/200m only do so because they are not quick enough at the short sprints so that would rule SML out then.

I know that do a degree is true of all t&f athletes e.g. there may be a distance runner who would like to be a shot putter but they are only 5'6" and would struggle to hit 140 lbs even if they lay on bed all day eating burgers and pizza.

                              Fred Kerley.
Some athletes mature into their speed. Carl Lewis and Justin Gatlin were hurdlers.
