It's pretty obvious at this point that for one reason or another, the BU track is as fast or faster than outdoor tracks for distance races. It's why time qualifying in NCAA indoors is a farce. Certain tracks are faster than the others and the quality of pacing matters.

These are two things that people who follow horse racing have noticed since Andy Beyer in the early 70s.

Adel Mechaal ran 7:30.82 (European Record) at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix last year.

Mario Garcia's 7:34.74 places him behind Mechaal at '#4 AT performer on the ESP list and also 4th under 7:35. He's now ahead of Mohamed Katir and Fermin Cacho in 5 and 6 respectively. His previous indoor best was 7:48.40 at Fayettville in January 2021.

While always talented, he became a different guy in between the NCAA and WCs last year. To the extent that when he was racing in Eugene in the WC, I didn't realize that Mario Garcia was the same athlete referred to in NCAA competition as Mario Garcia Romo.
